What are the best engine mods for a FN2?

Hey guys! :) My mates brother has an Mugen FN2. Hes had it dyno'd before and its only 200bhp so guess its near enough the same as a standard fn2. At the moment its pretty much standard, and he was asking me about getting the ecu chipped etc so i told him get it remapped and hes better off getting more mods to get his moneys worth from a remap. So thought i'd help him ask about.

I've heard 3" exhaust systems are good and no idea what else haha.

How much do you's reckon he will need to spend to hit 250bhp+ mark as well?

if its only making 200bhp then that pretty lame! maybe there is something wrong with it or something wrong with the rollers, maybe you should sort out a bit of a drag race with a standard fn2 to confirm, all done on a private road of course

were his dyno readings read at the wheels or the flywheel? if its at the wheels then around 200bhp is about right, cause you usually add about 30bhp to get the power at the flywheel

so 200bhp at the wheels means its going to be roughly 230bhp at the flywheel

im no expert on the mugen fn2's but i would imagine its already pretty damn well modded from the factory, so i would probably suggest a decat and that would probably take it close or over 250bhp at the flywheel

If it just a standard FN2 with a mugen body kit then that power is about right
Going by what people do with EP3s just changing exhaust, intake, and reprogramable ECU will get near to 240 depending on quality of above parts used. Then it's up to him if he wants to but things like cams ect to get that extra bit

Mines running 236bhp to get it there you will need

Tegiwa Decat manifold
Tegiwa single Cat back system
Tegiwa Induction kit
Tegiwa ram air fog scoops
Fd2 RRC inlet manifold
Fd2 throttle body

Then custom remapped with a hondata flashpro

To hit the 250 mark I'm looking at the fd2 balanced shaft delete (oil pump) and tdi north stage1 cams

If your just looking for power bolt a supercharger on it will cost you less than all the parts above and sort the brakes out stoptech kits are really good, job done

^

I'm running a toda catback and FlashPro...reckon I'm about 215-220 bhp from reading online. Need to spend a lot of money to get to the 250 mark.

I've got a CAI to fit and possibly go for new mani...then proper map. Would be happy with 230-235 if possible.

Eh?

You guys are on a different planet i'm sure!

the FN2 has the K20, as mentioned the mugen FN2 is just different exterior with about another £20,000 chucked on the list price.

Getting a K20 to 250bhp @ FLY can be done on STOCK cams and naturally aspirated.

Jeeez get yourself a decent cold air intake and a DECENT exhaust manifold and a 3 inch manifold back system and you will easily see 250bhp

Most important = GET KPRO!

^^^ your wrong feller there is no way of getting 250bhp on standard cams. Mines highly modded and only getting 236bhp I need a good set of cams in there to hit around 250bhp the fn2 has a different k20 in it to the ep3 and kpro doesn't work you need a flashpro that hondata supply.

He isnt wrong. Plenty of k20a's/k20a2's on here in producing 250+ with only bolt ons.

Get it to a proper tuner....

I personally know of a k20a2 with 100k miles on the clock and it produced 215whp.

FN2's dont have a K20A in them though.

They run a K20Z which has balance shafts and stuff. Not sure on the exact differences from it to a K20A but from what it seems they don't respond to tuning quite as well as the K20A/A2's

If its just the Mugen and not the Mugen RR then it prity much has the same engine as any other FN2 but with an LSD and mugen body kit. Only the RR's came with the 240hp Mugen Engine's

either way, you're not going to notice a phenomenal difference with an extra 30bhp on a N/A car

spend your money on handling / brakes / gearbox mods / good tyres

if you want decent power then charge it, simple

I do use a proper tuner Tdi North and as I said before the engines are different. With a balance shaft delete and stage1 cams I should hit the 250 mark.

All that was said was with K20a/2 in mind - I did state k20a's could make it. As my experience is there...

tdi north overhyped imo. Their dyno is far too 'happy' which fools people into thinking their car has far more than it actually does..

250bhp

You will NEED

Inlet manifold
Throttle body
Exhaust manifold
Cams
Cat back exhaust
Air intake
FD2 Oil pump
Flash pro

And a decent map
Have a look on our website, we do most of the parts:)

Thanks

On the same dyno and EP3 would need

Inlet manifold
Exhaust manifold
Cat back exhaust
Air intake
K-pro

Have you used them? I bought my car standard and all the work/mapping has been done by tdi. I know what my car started with and what it is now using the same rollers. The lads there know what there doing and how to get the best out of the fn2. They have developed there own cams and made a turbo kit for the fn2 aswell.

I'm not bothered about figures it's how the car drives as I use it on track aswell, saying that a bit more power on the straights wouldn't go a miss :)
