Weird vtec problem

Hey wonder if anyone could help,

Ive had a problem with my vtec for a few weeks now, it keeps turning on and off while driving. When i put my foot down it randomly switches and gives that extra power and sound whenever it feels like it. Its like a slowly flickering light bulb going on and off when it wants and some of the time it doesn't work at all!

Sounds like it could be a loose electrical connection somewhere or a dodgy sensor. Ive got the d15z6 engine so its only got vtec on the intake valves. Has anyone had this problem before? Ive checked all visible connections they seem ok and oil pressure and temperature are normal as well but I'm not a vtec expert so I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light :)

Sounds like the same problem i had with my Jordan....!!

Drain all the old Oil out from the Sump...and Put New oil in!!

i did this and it was like New again mate!!!!
 
Yeh change the oil mate and also take off the vtec solonoid and clean it out. Most likely its just got a bit gunked up.

ps make sure you keep on top of the oil changes, its your engines blood.

how the vtec solenoid can be cleaned ??
is there a how to ?
 
Well I'm not exactly sure if this is it but a friend of mine from school had a h22 vtec prelude that was having a problem like this n it took us awhile to figure it out we tried the solenoid with no luck changed the oil etc.. It actualy ended up being the secondary igniter in the distributor and when the vtec came in the motor went more a hotter spark but with it going bad could not get it so it would go in and out almost like it was breaking up.. Just an idea for ya if you try other things and they don't work.. Good luck..
 
ill just ring up honda in northampton as for the tech department and they gave good advise if anything like this happens i would given you the number but i left my phone at home
 
hardly a faulty map sensor? think its linked sumway so it triggers vtec under load!?!? is there a vtec controller installed, could be a wiring prob if so
 
Vtec working perfectly now :D all it needed was an oil change and a new filter and I changed the plugs while I was at it, cars done over 150,000 miles so I've been neglecting it a bit lol I suppose it's an excuse to go buy a 9! Thanks for the help!
 
i have ek3 d15z6 and started to wired thing when its in vtec its fine up to 5000revs then past 5000revs and then it starts to struggle some times i wont hit the limiter some people said

i need to change the oil pressoure switch
or clean the vtec valve

dont no much about this i need some help cheers
