Did Blyton in this last week. Had a cracking day out and a lot of fun, but it did highlight a few issues with the car, so picked up a few new toys to fit this week and hopefully remedy thore few little problems:
- Firstly, I managed to cook the brakes on the first outing. Not good! My money's on fluid well past it's sell by date, so that's the first thing to correct. Picked up some ATE Typ 200, so will flush all the old out and replace it this week. Brakes never recovered all day, so had to be real gentle with them from then on. Hopefully just a fluid change will see it right, as pads/discs are already very good, so a further upgrade will prove costly!
- Secondly, when we swapped the engine not long back, we replaced all the front end running gear with that off a 98 spec DC2 and while it was in bits we stripped, cleaned and rebushed every component, so all was good as new. I didn't have time to give the rear the same treatment at the time, so all the rear suspension is still on 120,000km old bushes. It really upset the balance of the car, to the point where it was putting a big dent in my confidence and didn't want to push it any harder. Front end feels pin sharp, where as the rear is horribly loose and wanders about doing as it pleases
Needless to say there's a full set of bushes and new rear arms now sat here ready for fitting!
- And lastly, spring rates! Decided to go up slightly to try and correct a bit of the excessive weight transfer I was experiencing when the AD08's got nice and sticky. I found I was unloading the inside tyres too much in some of the bends, to the point where it'd lose grip and slide a little too easily, so hopefully this'll be an easy fix.
Spent most of the morning pressing the wrong button (never used it before!) on the GoPro, so haven't got much video. I've a handful more to upload when I get a minute
