Crank is at TDC so lining cams up. The marks seem to meet and the up marks are, well, up, but I kinda thought they would be more vertical if you know what I mean???

Can someone take a look at the pic. Wanna get the belt thrown on

On another note after snapping 2 cam carrier bolts at 10ftlb (junk 2 low profile kit) I will NEVER buy any junk 2 **** again. Std torque value is 20ftlb, 2 were OK other 2 snapped at 10ftlb as was doing them in 2 stages. Utter cheese wank!!!!!

That is correct buddy, if you notice your timing marks are also at a slanted angle following the curvature of the head. its even worse with aftermarket cam gears, my skunk2 cam gears was slanted as well, I lined the marks up and it ran rough, lined the marks up with the curvature of the head and it ran fine, then my Brian Crowers on my new engine was completely the opposite.

It's far clearer with the rear timing belt cover on. If you plan to fit this you need to take the cams back out anyway.

Seems ok turned it over a few times, surprised at how close the belt and tensioner are to the engine mount. I seem to be basically as far as the tensioner will tension as well to get it something like acceptable is this normal?? I.e it's put the belt very close to the engine mount

What engine is this and did you replace the water pump? I've just done this, the water pump I bought had less teeth on it, only noticed it because the belt didn't tension up properly! I've checked the original pump, it seemed OK so I put it back on again. As Jesse says there's a mark on the back cover that helps to line it up as well.

Found a guide online suggesting there should be more tension on the left hand side and more slack on the water pump side... Mine feels the opposite. Think I'll pop it off tonight and re fit. Gonna grind the corner of the engine mount down too it's gonna give me nightmares running that close to the belt!!

The order in which you put the belt on is important, the inlet camshaft must be the last! Don't grind the mount, get to the root of the problem, when it comes to timing belt you must be 100% sure it's right. Is the belt too long perhaps?

Is it the correct length belt?

It's the right belt I think I've put it on in the wrong order. Don't think the engine mount is a standard Honda item either so may make it look worse with how close it is to the tensioner.

Now you say it that makes sense... aaaand it's not what i did.

Definitely not right. As said it's needs to be tight from crank to cam pulley. Then the slack is taken up by the tensioner.

Nope... well.. not that I know of

After the above posts I'm sure I've just got the slack in the wrong place.

Surely if the block or head had been skimmed there would be enough adjustment in the tensioner to take up the slack anyway..?

The actual timing side of things was very easy to be honest, more to do with the fact I've not done one of these before and expected the up marks to be more vertical. As for putting the slack on the wrong side when fitting the belt that's just me being a weapon haha
