Thermostatic Sandwich plate Question for Turbo's

Hi All,

i'm currently building a 1997 Turbo EK VTI.
The stock oil pressure sensor is a real pain to get to so i thought about running and sandwich plate and oil cooler anyway.
Questions:
1. can a turbo oil feed be run from a thermostatic sandwich plate?
2. if i tee off one of the 1/8 fittings on the plate is it ok to run oil temp and pressure gauge from there?

Reason for asking if wouldnt a thermostatic sandwich plate cut off the oil feed to the turbo until the thermostat opens?
Would an option be stacking a normal non thermostatic plate to the block to feed turbo and gauges the adding the oil cooler plate after?
 
Yes and yes assuming you have enough ports in the plate.
Oil goes through the outside of the plate just not through the oil lines.
Think about how would you get oil to the filter with the stat closed otherwise...?

I find the oil pressure sendor port to be easy enough to get too anyway, youll see why trying to run so much off of the sandwich plate is difficult when you try it. Theres not much room to run your lines so they have to sit a certain way
 
I tried to use a sandwich for plate but personally found it easier to use the oil pressure switch hole for my turbo oil feed and oil pressure gauge. :nice:
 
I use a t piece on the oil pressure switch hole. One outlet from the t goes to the turbo and the other is a remote line that has a t piece on the end for stock oil pressure switch and spa oil pressure gauge sender. I then run a standard sandwich plate with a thermostat plate on top of it for the oil cooler. I use two as there isn't enough room under the water hard pipe for the 90 degree fittings for the oil cooler. Pics on my build thread.

the biggest issue im having at the moment is getting the oil pan off... the bolts that are connected to the gearbox that hide 2 of the oil pan nuts are proving very troublesome :(

as much as its an ebay special it provides a good example, so there is the 2 x AN10 fittings for the cooler and which i assume the other 2 fittings are 1/8's for gauges etc... this would be ok to run a feed line from?

I mean the flywheels cover that has 2 x 17mm bolts in it!
 
Ah i see. Somewhat unique design on that plate. Without seeing it in person i wouldnt want to say for sure due to where the ports are. I was thinking they where in the round part of the plate.

Best bet is the pressure switch port tbh.

I usually use my foot on a bar to get those gearbox brace bolts off if they are too tight. Assuming your working on the floor

This just make sure you buy the right size thread on the T piece. 1/8 BSPT not NPT.
Also I managed to fit my thermo plate direct to the stock oil cooler, with enough room for fittings. I dint use 90 degree though.
