hi guys.. i have read on some forum that it is o.k to remove the thrmostat on our engines..

what are your opinions about that idea? the good side and bad side of that idea..

also when you remove the thermostat, would it contribute to added or more pressure on the radiator?

I don't think it'd be an issue but it's pretty important to know what temp your engine is at :) I wasn't having a pop buddy, was just curious

It's a **** idea lol. You will still know the engine temp as the gauge will work fine but it will run too cold most of the time, not a great idea for the engine, you'll lose mpg too! On a different note mine got stuck closed 4 mins into a lap round the ring! I cut the centre section out so it was permanently open so I could drive home.

If you remove the thermostat, then the engine will be colder than the recommended operating temperature. Also, I think the radiator will likely have less pressure with no thermostat.

Not an issue taking it out. Car will run, but as already stated, not recommended.
t3gav did what I would do in case of an issue, but these things are so damn cheap, might as well just replace it over taking it out.

Leave it there, you'll gain nothing by removing it! The engine will take forever to warm up (= the oil will take longer to warm up = increased wear) And your fuel economy will be crap. If you are having issues with overheating on track etc then fit a larger radiator.

yeah, there must be a reason for the question, right?!?
if over heating is indeed the issue, there may be a few reasons why other than just the t-stat.

side question.. why does the MPG is affected when we remove our thermostat?

It makes your engine work so much harder, everything takes longer to warm up and you're in essence, removing a fairly important part that aids in the well-being of the car.

Your ECU will take readings from everything, including coolant temperature to establish the amount of fuel / air / choke to apply.

If the car thinks the engine is cold it will idle at 1500rpm all the time / choke more etc, thus using more fuel.

Really not advised to remove it.
