I'm wanting to run a 185/45 on a 15x7j but I use the car as a daily and don't want it to burst, i know 185 is a big stretch (if any) but just wanted to know if it is safe to run as a daily?? Thanks

I ran 175/55/r15 on a 15x8j with no problems for about 6 months, I also have run 175/50/r15 on 15x7j with out any problems for a year.

Some police dont care about stretch but other police will give you a hard time, it is a grey area of the law however, it is not necessary illegal and I passed MOT with stretch. :)

I should also add that E46 m3's run with some stretch as factory standard and I think some drift cars do also as it increases sidewall stiffness.

As much as I'm not a fan of stretching, and while I don't think that officially 185 would be recommended on a 7j wheel I don't think you will have any issues - just hope you don't drive the car in a spirited fashion. Don't have any first hand experience tho so take what I say with a pinch of salt ;)

185 should be ok on a 7J alloy as a 7J wheel should have tire size 205-225, although stretch tires is something i dont recommend or like!

So it's pretty safe to run then? Probably go for a 185/45/15 then :) never wanted silly stretch, just didn't want my tire to bulge over the rim

That amount of stretch is not going to make a huge difference, just keep a eye on tyre pressures and you should be all good :)

If it goes pete tong I had nothing to do with it! honest ;) hahaha

195 is minimum for a 7" rim, not 205.

185 is not much stretch really....but a lot of stretch is probably a bad plan.

Don't worry, I won't blame anyone! Just making sure it was safe to do, going to get my hands on some nankangs ns2, heard good reviews for saying their a budget tyre.

they are budget alright, Ditch finders in another name.

You said it! If you drive your car quickly you'd be aswell leaving the tyres in the garage and running bare rims, especially when the roads are wet.

(Probably an exaggeration, but there not good tyres)

The "Stance whorezzz" will rate them because there cheap and pretty good for "stretching" but they tend to just scrape along the road slowly anyway :nice:

Nankang NS2-R however have found themselves a home as a great intermediate tyre for (list 1B) track work as they work really well in the damp.

I mechanic for TimeAtack and at Silverstone on Sunday these were everywhere.

Ended up buying some 185's, found a guy that will fit them too, so we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the advice/help guys

So you're planning to run tyres that are not intended for the wheel? Why not go the whole hog and only half tighten the wheel nuts too?

It's just doing half a job. If you drive an EK9, why on earth would you fit the wrong tyres to a performance vehicle?! They are the only part of the car that keeps you from sliding into a tree and being killed.

Sorry to sound like an *******, but this stance thing gets right on my tits.

I ran 195's on an 8" on my crx, drove that quite hard and never had a problem.

But VOSA shafted me for them.

This topic comes up on every forum and always generates the same response haha.

I think you would be silly to run it on a EK9 it will impede the handling imho but on my mk3 golf I had that so low on the rear that it was sitting on the bump stops and had a 175 tyre on a 8j rim and loved it, I never had a problem and drove 22 miles a day to work.

Will you have a problem running stretch - not the amount you are looking to run it is very little.

this is what it will look like:

I really like the 'stanced' look though, it's the look I'm going for, but not too seriously. I don't have the power to make it a performance car. Eventually will think about doing an engine swap and go more from stanced to race. For the time being i'm having fun just tinkering with my car and making it look nice
