Hi guys.
I have been running TE37 Rays 16x7 wheels / Spoon calipers / stock honda rotors on my EK9 for a while now, plenty of clearance.

I just scored some 15 x 6.5 +45 offset wheels, black anodized, great condition in 4 x 114.3 pattern. Couldn't have been happier, because I really wanted 15s, to avoid expensive 16inch semi slick tyre prices for the track.

Well, my eK9 actually has a DC2 96 spec hub conversion, so 4 x 114.3.

I fitted Spoon Calipers recently, no major problems.

Now fitting the Spoon wheels, I have found they need not 3mm, not 6mm, not even 9mm but a full......10mm (!) of spacing to clear the spoon calipers! fu&k it!

Anyway, I cannot figure out why, since Spoon surely would have made these wheels to suit the 96 spec DC2.

I am worried that if I I space the hubs out 10mm, that I will get major rubbing.

10mm extra track front and rear, with good studs, might be nice for handling, though. (?)...hmmm

Any thoughts on this?

Sell the spoons, and spend the dosh on some 16 inch Bridgey RE11S, paint my TE37 black, and be done with it?

Or, buy studs, 10mm spacers, rock the Spoonies, roll the guards.....

I don't know what to do.

Help me make a decision guys.....had a few beers (many, actually), so sorry if this post is confusing.

Given these spoons are 15x6.5 et45 I would imagine 10mm spacers giving them an effective et35 should be ok on the rubbing front.....

for example mine are 16x7 et37 running 215 front and 195 rear, no rubbing issues at all, although only have about 3mm of spacing available before tyre would touch rear arch.

Keep the wheels, buy extended studs and run 10mm spacer up front job done.

As for the statment "why on gods name" whats the difference in running 4 studs instead of 5??? Better wheel choice in 4 stud.

Not sure why it has these hubs....but I wouldn't bother changing back to original. I am not fussed about it.

Ok I will try the spacers and studs, and report back on the results!

I wish this was true every wheel I find that I like is a 5 stud and Ive only got 4

Keep them, 4x114.3 seem to sell for less than 5x114.3 and much less than 4x100 on the Japanese auction sites.

You would have been better off with the +35 or even the +28 wheel. They would have all originated from the same 15"x6.5" forging, its just the +45 has the most machined off the hub face of the wheel.

Thanks, Goba, I did not know that....interesting.
You are right about the pricing, which is how I scored my Spoons for a pretty good price!

I think aRc in here has spoon sw388s and has spoon calipers on the front.

Ive done the same converted my 9 to 4x114 and have 96 spec wheels with 5mm spacers to clear the 282 calipers. The main reason was for prices of discs rear wheel bearings and wheel choices. I have just ordered spoon calipers from rhdjapan and am now lookin for a set of spoon wheels or te37s or something that will clear calipers without spacers! Any one got pics of wheel with spoon brakes to help me decide?

I have 16x7 45+ regamasters (basically the same as SW388), with spoon calipers, and it cleared with no spacers, but I put in 3mm spacer just for that little bit of room, mine is 4x114 hubs.

I used to have 15x6.5 45+ regas and they wouldn't even take OEM 282mm calipers, it was useless.

You converted your car to 4x114.3 for wheel choices? I always found 4x100/5x114.3 a lot easier to get good wheels for.

And SW388's with an offset of +42mm won't clear spoon calipers without spacers, however rega's with an offset of +35mm should do as they clear 282's no problem without spacers.

And TE37's are fine with spoon calipers in 15" too :nice:

Ran into the same problem lately with my ek9, 10mm spacer and extended wheel studs on the front will sort u out, u won't need spacers on the rear obviously,

Was also shocked to find out the wheels wouldn't clear the brakes without spacers! Since they are both spoon u would think they would! :angry2:

Most 16" Regas/SW388 will clear but if anything, u may need 3mm spacer which isn't a big deal.
