Finally got these fitted!

Not sure if my pedal is right but we have got loads of air out and the pedal feel is much better than my bro's teg.

Anyway

2 words HOLY COW!

These things are amazing so much power its unreal. They bite so hard that my ABS is working as much as my brakes are :nerv:

Really really progressive really nice feel lovery bite they are just amazing! EK9 calipers PANTS in comparison would really really recommend these as an upgrade! Top work Mr Spoon! Again!

My only concern is i was locking the wheels on track with R888's before! They're going to lock even more easily now! Is it possibly to wear the ABS out?

Steven how you can take your ABS off i don't know.... These little fcukers are violent!

Interesting reading that you're locking your wheels even with the OEM EK9 calipers.

One of my customers did this upgrade, and the difference before/after was like night and day. A very worthy purchase, although in my personal opinion there are cheaper alternatives that are just as good (if you are tracking your car, that is).

His car never, EVER locks up, even with full slicks. He has ABS also.

What brake pads are you using? I always put Pagid pads in any car that I get to work on, they are the best, period (but that's not what the threads about).

It took a fair amount of bleeding to get the Spoon calipers right though, even more so than my custom made six pots. Go figure.

Lol so these are worth there hefty price tag then dude? You need let us kno how u get on with these long term mate I mite hav to save sum pennies up! Can ur car get any better? :)

These are definatly on my shopping list! :) can you use oem ek9 discs and pads with these calipers?

Oem pads and disks fit on too spoon calipers, i've had mine on for 18 months. I find if you use std disks on track brake fluid gets to hot, And i use rbf600. Got tar-ox 40 grooved with corsa 501 pads work well on track have no fade. Done about 15 trackdays on these disks no cracks. camberley autofactors are tar-ox dealers. Not sure with ebc cracked up a set of pads on trackday and smoke a bit...:nerv:

Funny thing with the ABS

I've ran these on track with carbotech xp8 pads (savage pads, rated up to 800 deg C) and EBC blanks, stomping the brakes hard and late with no ABS kick in at all, that was on RS2's not even the R888 !!!

Sure even without ABS now I won't have bother

what was abs like on road when giving it some ?

ive been tempted to buy these for last few years but decided against due to locking up issue, had 2 mates who removed them due to this after trying few different pads

ian you put that they lock up easy and bite very hard but then also said very progressive, one goes against the other

huge bonus with these is that oem discs and sized pads are utilised which is big attraction for many including myself

i have been keeping my eyes open for these for ages but cant ever seem to get any at a decent price . going to have to pay the new price me thinks  lol

I guess you are on about the twin block? Does that mean that the monocoque is the same?

Fine on the road too, great thing about 4 pots is you can modulate them better than single piston slider brakes, had a pretty mushy pedal though prior to pulling the car apart, especially after the last track outing

Bled my brakes today and my god they're soooooo much easier to bleed without ABS, used maybe 750ml of fluid to bleed everything and got a rock solid pedal :wow:

Will let you know how I get on without ABS, it's pretty full on cintered pads i'll be running on the front with endless CCX ones on the back

The rebuild on these calipers are pricey i hear. How likely are they to go wrong?

I rebuilt mine myself, took a couple of hours to do both

Seals were still in good condition just had to t-cut the pistons slightly to remove any grime then lubricate with brake fluid when refitting

Lasted 15k through 2 scottish winters before a strip down, pretty decent :)

I'm using EBC Yellows, i think its actually the rears locking up due to the power from the fronts the rear becomes quite light and then locks so my ABS starts going crazy. Perhaps what doesn't help is R888's on the road not up to temperature on our cold UK roads. On track it was on the odd occasion which i put it down as elevation changes and wheels being light.

did you get the bleed nipple fixed in the end ian?

Nope loads of air come out the rears not much from the fronts. The front left we took of and moved it arround while bleeding which got some air out. All was good. Gona do it again in a couple of weeks cause still not happy with the pedal. Could do with a second opinion. Its no worse than my bro's teg or martins 9... So i don't know.

I was wondering the same...

On the road ABS did kick in a little with stock calipers but its alot pronounced now alto more!!! I think its because its unweighting the rears and R888's on the cold roads are not getting sticky enough.

As for progressive what i mean was they pull up really really well but when your being spirited on the road they are locking easily so the ABS goes mental. Progressive is the wrong word i think. They just pull you up so hard! HTH kind of makes sense...

Wish mine were solid... They feel strange imo

Im excited for mine going on this week. Steven did you not say you had to bleed the brakes a few times for the pedal to be solid?

How is the pedal when the ignition is off Ian? Then when you turn the key does it sink some?

Is that a good or a bad thing? my old car from 2 years ago used to do that, i never thought anything to it though...

Yeah they take a while to bleed with ABS as theres the ABS pump to worry about, seems to hold air nicely

Bleeding them yesterday I don't have ABS anymore, so nice and easy :nice:
