Just wanted to raise the issue to see what the site think.
Not saying its good or bad just asking.

The site can be viewed as a non member/ not signed in.
Has its pros and cons , people can see how active and good the site is bit then the privacy issues.
Any views?

Thanks for your opinion mate, this issue has been raised in the passed and as you say it has its pro's and cons indeed.

Will pitch the case to the other mod's and see what they think.
I think personally as long as people are sensible about posting pics without exposing their registration number and address etc its ok.
We do urge users to try and stay as safe as possible by doing just that.

Would you prefer it if we made the site private for only members to view ?

Private viewing would be good I think. But wouldn't make a big difference because if someone wanted on for "no good" then they could easily sign up.

Would still be all for the private forum but :nice:

There could be an option for the thread starter to keep the thread private for users up to 250 posts.

Just as an example, someone has a prob with their honda, they go on the site see a thread get their answer and off they go. No sign up, no contribution etc etc.
just one example. Just seeing what others are thinking.

If someone wanted to just get details they can easily sign up, that doesn't solve anything. I think the idea with the option to choose who can see it (xx posts over or public) is really good! But ultimately it is always going to be us (the users) who need to be sensible about what are we posting.....

id be all for the members rides and build thread sections being private so only members can see them, but the technical section public, that would be a fair compromise i think.

I like the idea of making certain sections private!

Such as members rides, build ups and classifieds sections perhaps...

If we could set a post count threshold on sections too that would be rather interesting.. Personally I think perhaps 250 is a little high and would reduce content for new and genuine users. Something smaller... Around 50 posts perhaps...

Or lower again, but set the initially daily maximum posts to 10 so they can not easily spam their way into high numbers...

I agree with certian areas being private to a certian level of posts but I would have to work even harder to get my post count up without spamming and it would be hard. Just so I could view certian sections

I don't think its that bad I use to view the site as a non member before hand as it had useful information

Under discussion buddy :D

Cool interested to know.

Surely though if someone is to use the site / enjoy it / and benefit from it tgey should at least take 5 mins out to sign up espcially since some sites you have to pay etc. the more members document and recorded the better :) maybe some sections public so people see what goes on and then sign up for full access.

There was a forum i went on one night but cant mind what it was now, but they let non members view the whole forum, but does not let them open any threads. This way it gives new members a chance to see what goes on before signing up.. Just throwing that out there :D

Ok, have discussed this in length with RVM and we agree'd just to keep the forum as it is as changing a few of the section's to private etc would only divert traffic from here to elsewhere and affect the site in the long term. The site has had this set up since it was launched in 2006 and has became as big and popular as it is today by sticking to it.
Security has been tightened over the last year or so and spammers/spamming has been reduced significantly in result of this.
If we all stick to the rules and be careful about posting personal information etc online we should not have any problems.

Stay safe out there people and as always please feel free to share your opinions :nice:
