So in early 2014 I imported a DC2 from Torque GT...which I ended up crashing after 1 week of ownership on the way to Japfest. Quite widely publicised and known. Sure you've all seen the pictures before but here's the aftermath:

Hard lesson learnt...

After going out the country for 6 months after that I got myself into an EP3 (surprisingly easy to insure even after my crash). I done quite a lot of work on it and also I did my first ever track day at Brands in it as well and loved it! Ended up looking like this before I broke it for parts this month.

But I never really fell in love with the car. I always felt like everything needed changing as it wasn't good enough. I toyed with the idea of a DC5 as most of my engine mods could easily be transferred over to it.

In the end I decided to give a DC2 another go! :D I managed to find a mega low mileage 98 Spec for sale not too far away.
I picked it up last Sunday, so I've already had this one a day more than my old one. haha
I've also managed to track down the majority of the previous owners and it's done barely any miles since being imported and has been well looked after.

Quick Spec:

98 Spec - No SRS or ABS
50K miles (30k in the UK since imported in 2011)
Spoon N1 back box (now swapped for a Mugen Twinloop)
Sports cat
Spoon drop in filter
Password JDM carbon fibre rear gurney flap
Password JDM carbon fibre bumper scoop
Eibach lowering springs
Cusco roll cage (currently missing the rear bars - trying to source them)
ATR twin pot brake upgrade
3 hole gauge pod
OEM rear spats

Pictures from the advert - arches are mint!

Currently being stored in my mates garage with his S15 Spec R until I sell my Civic and can swap the insurance.

Seems it used to have a few nice mods in the past, but were obviously sold on once the car was for sale. It had Defi's in the gauge pod as one point....I think this is something I'm going to have to do 8)

There isn't an awful lot it needs doing to it really, cambelt and water pump need changing and I'll be servicing every belt and fluid. New rocker cover is on oder with Spooner Restorations.
There is a small amount of surface rust in the boot that needs taking back and re painting. Hoping its just the rear light seals leaking, so going to start with changing those.

I don't have any groundbreaking plans for the car really. Just try my best at keeping on top of it looking it's best! Needs a good detail and a new battery haha Couple of niggling things sorting out, but the mods will come slowly. Most likely some basic bolt on mods a map and a nice set of wheels :p But I'm going to enjoy it as it for the time being!

Cheers guys!

Real nice example Simon, Looks to be in good original condition and hasn't been tarted up with parts from Alixpress which seems a common theme these days!

Common for boot floors to look like that with the fragile light seals and minimal microns of paint on the boot floor.

Will this one be seeing track? Wish I was in a position to buy more K20 parts off you lol.

Thanks man, I would probably go as far saying this one is cleaner on the exterior than my last example. Fingers crossed it's the same for the interior behind the plastics. lol :nerv:

Yeh I'm getting some seals ordered up ASAP and swapped over and see how the leak is after that. Will do a DIY repair to the boot floor I think. As long as the rust is removed and the metal has some form of protection in the way of paint I'll be happy. Not like anyone will see it so doesn't have to be perfect.

I think I will take it on track a couple of times this year as it is, with just the lowering springs and a good geometry set up to try and get a feel for the car in "standardish" form. Depends on work if and when I can go.

Unfortunately it's going to have to be my daily for maybe the first year or so as I can't quite afford to run this and another car. The Navy have just found it in their wisdom to promote me...and with that comes more money. So bit of saving and I should be able to cover 2 cars, insurance policies etc.

On the subject of a daily. What would everyone recommend.?Sub £1500 and cheap on everything. Doesn't necessarily need to be diesel.
My ideas so far have been:

Mazda MX5 - MK1/2
BMW E36 - 3 series
Toyota Yaris/Corolla T-sport

What do you all have in addition to your type r's?

Go for a facelift corolla tsport if you can find a well sorted one within budget.
Ive had 2, great cars very reliable and just as good as my ep3.

Looks like a gem, your plans to tidy it up sound good, best of luck :)

So I've got the DC2 on the road now insured and taxed :)) (Still haven't shifted my EP3 though! :angry2:)

Picked it up from my mates garage on Friday night. The car did have a fair bit of moisture in it when I bought it and being kept in a damp garage didn't help much, but the rear seats developed a few patches of mould :(Not only that but the drivers rear footwell was soaking underneath the carpet! :nono:

So Saturday and Sunday have been spent taking the majority of the interior out in order to get some bits sorted:

1) Remove the amp from the boot and all the associated wiring that goes with it. (Not really my thing)
2) Find the cause of the leak into the rear seating area and dry out everything properly
3) Inspect the condition of the inner rear arches.

It looks a bit overkill but its allowing me to get a lot of jobs sorted at the same time once and for all.

Started with the rear seats and rear boot plastic easy enough:
20170218_132504-1008x756.jpg

Then found my 1st issue...there wasn't enough space between the B pilar and the cage to get the side plastics out. Rear of the cage had to come out in order to remove it.

20170218_144700-756x1008.jpg

20170218_144725-1008x756.jpg

Got the carpet out before doing the cage and put it out to dry out.
Cage unbolted and side plastics removed:

20170219_124034-1008x756.jpg

Moment of truth....inner rear arches :blinx:

20170219_105743-1008x756.jpg

20170219_105812-1008x756.jpg

Not a spec of rust on either side! :lock::run::win::woot:
Little bit dirty...but its 18 years old! lol

Only real issue I found was the car was missing a bung on the passenger side next to the fuel pump cover. Slight bit of rust there and build up of mould...may explain the mouldy seats.
20170219_141436-1008x756.jpg

Whoever put the rear interior in before obviously couldn't find the original bolt for the rear seat belt...so just reused the eyelet. Guessing this once upon a time would have had harnesses. ;)

20170219_143335-756x1008.jpg

Also even though the rear bars for the cage have been removed they left in the bolts for it. I'm hoping that the load spreading plate is still in place underneath. Been quoted £580 just for the 3 bars at the rear of the cage!!!:wow:
Some of the areas around the footplates have developed a bit of surface rust so that will need rectifying asap.

20170219_091432-756x1008.jpg

Didn't take any pictures of the interior back in place as its just the seats and centre plastics for now.I've got 1 week at work in the UK and then I'm away for 2 weeks out the country with work. Once I'm back in March I have a whole month off to get the interior back up to scratch and move onto other areas of the car.

As for the inner arches....what would you guys suggest?
In terms of the gaps and crevices something like bilt hambers cavity wax? Or something like tiger seal? Or both?
What about the actual arch itself as obviously its unpainted...something like a clear underseal?
Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading :D

Thanks mate. I sure will...expensive lesson learnt! Haha
By chance are you Logan's mate, Ryan?
If so I think I seen you commenting on a few DC2's for sale.
What you looking for a JDM or U.K. Spec? Rolling shell or running car?
If I see anything I'll give you a shout!

So I've had a nice chunk of time off work recently and got a few jobs done. First up was a major service comprising of:

  • Engine & gearbox oil
  • Cambelt, tensioner and water pump
  • Valve clearances
  • Thermostat swap and coolant flush
  • Air filter, fuel filter & Vtec solenoid gasket
  • Dizzy cap, rotor arm and HT leads
I got TGM to do the cambelt, tensioner and water pump along with valve clearances. Just for peace of mind and proof of the parts being installed. All in all I think I've covered most items on the car apart from brake & clutch fluid and the power steering fluid.

Whilst at TGM the guys had a once over of the car and picked up on a couple of issues. The RTA bushes were shot, so those were replaced whilst there. Also my rear suspension was making an awful knocking noise. Turned out that the Skunk2 springs on there were actually rattling around when they didn't have any weight on them. I'm not too sure if this is simply because the spring is naturally shorter than OEM? Either way, it didn't look healthy, so needed changing ASAP!

Tom kindly offered me a set of Koni Yellow dampers he had knocking around that came off a low mileage car for an absolute steal! He also got me a set of Eibach springs to go with them as I'm really not a fan of the spring rates on the Skunk2's. The Koni's are a little flaky from where they've been sitting around doing nothing but the top mounts were all perfect. They'll do me as a stop gap until I decide if I ever want to run coilovers.

20170402_110302.jpg

Once they were on the car. It's nice to see the vast majority of the car got covered during it's undersealing, there's a few flaky patches but these will get attended to as and when I can.

20170402_172804-1008x756.jpg

The rocker cover was letting down the engine bay massively, so I got Spooner Restorations to knock me up a nice standard wrinkle red cover. I think this is the 4th cover I've had done by Paul! haha

Car went through it's MOT this week as well, with no advisories. :) I did need to get some new tyres beforehand, opted for ADO8R's again.

Last weekend I met up with a mate of mine who I met a couple of years ago during the days when he used to own a Honda. He does photography on the side as a hobby, but also works for KeepItClean. I wanted to have some decent pictures of the DC2 so we met up to do a shoot.
Luckily Chris lives about 10 minutes from the New Forrest, ideal location! I'll add my favourite pictures below and put a link in to the full album if anyone wants to take a look.

If you're based down south and want some top notch photos or want to see the rest of Chris' work his Facebook page is found here:

Future plans are to get Solid Fabrications to make me a custom b-pipe to match up to a Mugen twin loop back box I stupidly swapped for my Spoon N1, not realising it wouldn't fit the oem b-pipe like the Spoon did.

Anyways thanks for reading :)

Shame about the first DC2 buddy

All the best with this one coming along nicely

Looks smart!

I need an OEM JDM B-pipe at some point....

So not a massive amount to update on but done a couple of bits. Got around to future proofing the rear arches. After speaking to a lot of people, and using a few of their other products, I opted for Bilt Hamber's cavity was to get into every nook and cranny.
Really easy to use, and low level of fumes after using it. Comes out a horrible brown colour though so I wouldn't use it anywhere that was visible. It came poring out of the known gap that exists between the arch and sill so was defiantly getting everywhere!
Arches after a quick clean before application:

After a generous spray in the void spaces in the arches:
20170412_195036.jpg

I still want to do the sills and box sections with the cavity wax and I will also get some of their underseal as well to do areas like behind the bumpers and arches. I'll do one section at a time over the course of this summer.

Also bought something out of a bit of impulse. I've always loved their seats, but never see genuine ones for sale and they are always snapped up! Got this for a price I couldn't really pass by to be honest!

Bride Zeta 3 glitter back with a pretty rare (and possibly discontinued) back protector! :D After having it a few days, I definitely need to loose a little bit of weight! But its a nice goal to aim to! haha
Also got my personal wheel in this car as well :)

Carpet will be going back in eventually, along with a head unit and speakers, but I want to sort a couple of bits of surface rust that have developed around the feet of the roll cage.

Also went to Mimms at the weekend, wasn't on a stand or anything but met up with a few mates and also met some new people as well. I hadn't been to Mimms since 2015 and the turn out for this year was way bigger than that last one! I ended getting parked way out the way tucked up in a corner as we were pretty late!
Some absolutely incredible cars there, however K swaps are everywhere! I reckon I was one of a few B series DC2's and probably the only 100% engine bay one! lol

Very nice perch! And yeh, Don't give in to the Mimms crew with their ISOPON'd bays and wire tucks! :alone:

Same old, been away with work for a good few months and just been on some summer leave.
I had ideas of doing loads of work on the car these past 3 weeks...not the case. Been decorating a new extension on the house the 1st 2 weeks (bad timing to come home! Lol) and the lousy "summer" weather has put things on hold.

Whilst I've been away though I've bought quite a few things, so got a few bits on the car:

  • Godspeed X brace (butterfly bars need adjusting)
20170729_135819-1008x756.jpg

  • Tein bonnet dampers
  • Mugen Intake BNIB
20170731_184151-1008x756.jpg

  • Feels manifold - I'm still in the process of polishing it up but here's how it started out:
20170719_193319-1008x756.jpg

And here's how it's looking after a small localised patch was polished (not perfect still though)
20170728_210823-756x1008.jpg

  • K-Tuned shifter (Love this!)
  • DC2 Armrest (missing a blank)
20170729_135745-756x1008.jpg

20170729_135704-756x1008.jpg

I also got a Fujitsubo RM01A exhuast but only to discover the baffles in the back box are shot! Later I found out it's a 1st gen exhuast so is made from mild steel vs stainless and the baffles are prone to rattling around in them. Pretty pee'd off as I paid good money for it and have to pay more to have to have it repaired
