Need some advice guys, im looking to fit the above bonnet however i dont want to use bonnet pins. According to seibon pins are required, i dont like the look as i prefer a clean look/finish.
Whats the best way around this, im assuming bonnet dampers? I want to retain a oem mechanism so i will be able to open the bonnet from inside the car.

Thanks in advance for all your advice

Not sure if they even come with the loop for the catch... hence why pins or aero catches are used.

Thanks mate im not so clued up on these things. Any other ideas on obtaining a carbon bonnet with a exact oem style/mechanism?

On another note how was the ring?!

@Steve M Just got one, was Carbon Collective I think. Came with the OEM style mechanism, but I'd honestly use the catches mate. Seen so many horror stories of the top layer coming off at speed, really not worth the risk!

Nice one mate, im too fussy i really dont like the look of pins but might just have to

Pins I agree don't look too good, although proper aero catches fitted correctly can look good

Here's a couple of mine:

That looks great mate so much better than pins. I think i will opt for carbon aero catches to blend in even more. Whats your opinion going from oem bonnet to carbon performance wise, more engine noise, better handling etc?

Thanks for the pics mate

Probably best to use pins , but I couldnt bring myself to cutting my carbonfibre bonnet or drill holes for window washer , I put my window washer jets on my cowl just under my bonnet, and iv had my car at speed with just the oem catch for 4 years now .

I feel exactly the same its catch 22 dont want to do it but theres always that what if..
Especially as my car is slowly turning into a pure track car

Oh yeah, the what if is always there , and the lads that track there cars do know better,
Only if there was a catch with a little chain that you can put on under the hood as a back up ?
That way you can keep the clean look .
Every time I close my bonnet I give it a good pull to make sure it's closed good and proper

I think its more the issue of the glue separating and the top layer lifting off which is the issue.

Also I think if you went for the carbon catches they would look a bit **** if the weave doesnt match?

I didnt think if that, im going to have to experiment and come to a solution.

Thanks everyone for your insight been great help.

My particular bonnet isn't any lighter than the oem that came off to be honest, it's very solid in it construction. It doesn't sag or bend when it's up on the bonnet stay and doesn't wobble at speed what so ever.

Never thought the skin would go flying!
I must have a closer look at mine , but like liamEk9 my bonnet is sturdy, but definitely a good bit lighter then oem, but what I did that most do not ,
I used the rubber seal that goes under the front of the oem bonnet and put it on my carbonfibre bonnet, and I think that helps with keeping the air flow over and not under the bonnet, but you got to drill tiny holes to use it and in places tiny screws .

My carbon bonnet feels very flimsy compared to oem. But it is also very light! I actually like the look of bonnet pins and ordered some a few days ago. I'd be concerned about the corners of the bonnet lifting and air getting underneath, eventually ripping the catch off. Maybe I'm paranoid but considering the potential consequences it's not worth the risk imho. Plain black aero catches are your best bet I reckon, the downside of them is they need more cutting compared to standard bonnet pins, those just need a small hole for the pin to go through plus a few smaller holes for screwing the latch to the bonnet.

I bought a carbon culture bonnet brand new last month. The bonnet came with pins and a recommendation to use them. A quick look online showed a load of people that have used them with only the OEM latch and been fine, to be fair the catch on the bonnet is quite sturdy. But I'd always run a set of pins/aerocatches on any carbon/fibreglass bonnet just to be on the safe side

If you really don't want to use pins or catches, why not just get the Bonnet wrapped? Fraction of the cost and you get the look you're after

My aerodynamics one came with the oem style latch, we put some loctite on the bolts too just to be sure, I did have carbon style aero catches to go with it that I bought separate but went against it, the carbon style ones don't look good at all so I sold them.

Sam I'd have to disagree with you on that one ,
Wrap and the real thing are like apples to oranges.
