Is it safe to pay through bank transfer. I'm buying some wheels off someone on civiclife. As much as a nice and genuine guy he seems, the amount of threads i've been coming accorss recently about bad sellers not sending out goods scares me a little. I understand through paypal you can sort of claim it back, can I do that if I send money through bank transfer if anything goes wrong?

Who is the member man?

I dont buy anything from anyone I dont know/has a great reputation etc.

He has a good reputation, almost 500 post. Username is shakman87. As I mentioned, seems like a nice guy but don't want to be sending £400 without some security as there has been many scams recently

up to yourself

get a phone number and adress off him and try and verify it

all these details can be confirmed by the banking system if you use the same bank

i would do it if it was something i was really after but maybe im a fool

Never heard of him mate and Im on CL quite alot. Send me a PM with the for sale thread in it and Il have one of the mods over there do abit of snooping for you.

Bank transfers are okay if you trust the person though, I send moneythat way to Neilvtec off here, but hes a gid **** lol.

Bank transfer is safe for the seller but dodgy for the buyer as there's no chance of charging the money back if you recieve sweet FA. You're taking a chance.

I see, thanks pm'd you with the for sale thread!:nice:

im also regular on cl and have never heard of this poster, tell him paypal or no sale buddy,or even better collect in person even if it means driving half the lenght of the country for them

If he claims he hasn't got PayPal, use a cheque. If he can't be assed to wait for it to clear... WALK

With a cheque, you have to send it via post, so you'll have his address.

Theres only two options in my mind, paypal, or go and collect it yourself. Unfortunatley, like you say there are so many scammers on the net your taking a risk paying with no come backs.

personal check, certified check, money order, cashiers check, wire transfer. Those are the riskiest ways to pay for the buyer, there is literally no recourse should the worse happen.

I'd say tell him to use Paypal and offer to cover his charges...

You can use a fee calculator to work out how much extra you need to send.

At least then your covered!

Thanks for all the good advice guys really helped. It's not allowing me to send money via bank transfer anyway think it's because I still have a childs account. He mentioned he would accept a check but I gave him two options. Meet halfway and I will cover petrol costs, or use paypal and I will cover charges. I would prefer to use paypal as he lives 270 miles away. I'll let you know what happens and thanks again:nice:
