Hi guys

I’m looking for some advice on the sequence on running in.

What spec oil do I use?

When do I change oil and filters through running in?

What revs do I max out on running in?

I have had loads of different opinions.

Thanks

Mike

When I did an engine rebuild on a b16a.

I used 10w 30 mineral/dino oil for 300 miles, and didn't revved past 4000 rpm. I used magnetic drain plug.

I drained that oil, and then went full synthetic oil.

I guess everything still ok?

How long did you keep the revs down for?

After much searching i went for Millers fully synth running in oil and this method.
Start up, warm up, change oil. With new oil in run to 100 miles, change oil and run to 500, then change again and run to 1000. Stayed below 2k up until the 500 miles then went to 4k.
Everyone seems to have they own way of doing things and there is much talk about it. I spent ages looking but what really got me is if it going to go bang I'd rather it went bang at lower revs.
Another thing to do is to let the engine do the breaking and now and again put it in a high gear and floor it to build pressure. I didn't do this until I had 100 miles under belt.

Engine is going strong after 4 years and doesn't use any oil. If you use this method and it does go pop I take no responsibility mind.

Thanks for your response

Ran mine on mineral oil for couple hundred miles first then oil change. Staying under 4k. Make sure you go through the revs and let the engine do the braking, power on then let off. It helps to seat the piston rings. Sitting at one speed on a motorway is no good. :)

Won’t have a problem on the Isle of Man with no motorways lol.
