Renaultsport Megane 275 Trophy-R

Honda are going to look very silly if they don't beat it!

Have Honda sent a stripped out version round then?

Somehow, I doubt Honda were planning on clinching the time by a few tenths of a second, but rather a substantial gap. I doubt it's 'back to the drawing board' time, but rather, try and show how fast a car can go round the ring with all its creature comforts. The Megane had a lightened battery, stripped rear, lightweight bucket seats, no radio, no aircon etc etc.

Should be interesting to see how it plays out though

Renault sport division are set up for this sort of stuff, with the time its taken Honda to develop the car i doubt they'll be able to react that quickly.

They've made the claim now though... just need to beat the non R version I guess. LOL

That's quite a laptime. I doubt honda have much if anything over that! They'll need to release a similar R edition to come close.
All their other fwd models are 8:40's. Nsx just about beats the megane?

First of all, cheers to Renault for this record. I've always said that if I were to change to European hot hatches it would either be Ford or Renault. This is the reason why. And doing things just because you can sometimes results in awesome things like this.

On the other hand what's the use of having a hatch when there is a rollcage? For that kind of money a two seater fwd...think I'd rather get me a BMW M 135i for the same amount of money to be honest. Or, if it has to be hardcore (which has my preference :D) Lotus Elise S.

Very impressive but at 38k I would rather build a few track cars than have a fast Megane

I have never ventured as far as the Ring yet, what sport of times are well setup EK9s and DC2s managing compared to the Megane??

Fastest time I had out there was a 8:31.
I had a good 6secs in traffic aswell.
Check out YouTube, ek9 Nurburgring 8:31. Mine should come up.
That's bridge to gantry mind, not the full lap and I'm no way a professional lol

Thats good going, so a well sorted DC2 with a pro driver should be capable of around 8:00 at a push

Depends what well sorted is really.
8mins full lap would put me over 50secs behind, I'm not a pro but I'm not that slow lol
Power and top speed are quite important at the ring.
An astra vxr does a lap in 8.35, stock dc2 8:47iirc?
Obviously the dc2 is a better handler but not enough power for such long straights.
Is say a 200hp dc2 with a host of handling mods would see an 8:20 full lap. That's around 8 bridge to gantry.
All guess work really lol

As brilliant as a DC2 is around the corners etc... It lacks the torque for the uphill sections compared to these modern high powered turbo cars, a lot of seconds are lost particularly on 'Kesselchen' section which a long upward pull.

I've always had a soft spot for these hardcore stripped out factory Renaults, this is where Honda should be at present, Not this new big 5dr tub of a Type R, as fast as it may be... All IMO.

Dad chatting to a guy at the 'ring with a well sorted DC5, Rear Stipped, Alcons, A048, 250 bhp +/- had his nurburgring decal with 8:43 in the centre, was a full lap he did.

I would like to see the likes of a DC5 or the new type-R beating the renault times because I'm a Honda man but it looks like its going to be a task!

I think that on a flat short circuit it would be a different story. A mate of mine owns an R26R and he has been to the ring a few times, he explained it as feeling like a fast version of an Integra to drive

Well I plan to find out what a 280hp ek9 can do over there in August.
Will find how much the extra power really helps.

Hmm, an impressive lap time. To be honest, lap times and the new CTR really don't interest me. Unless this new civic is as fun to drive as an ek9/dc2, which I highly doubt, or if it used new energy technologies, hybrid, hydrogen etc.. Then I would be interested, but even so it still has nothing on the older Hondas in terms of looks. This car is just Hondas entry into the pissing contest of who can build the fastest, and unless they build a stripped out track ready model it looks like they have just lost. Bone stock ek9 over this any day. MON the B16B ;)

Honda would have never made this claim if the plan was to just beat the fastest time by a few seconds. They are aiming at a huge gap I think.

I 've personally seen the new CTR go round the ring in it's test fase last August, and that thing was fast. At the time there were Audi's RS cars, Aston Martins and the likes driving around, and the CTR (still in the camo at the time) looked a lot faster.

anyway, I'm there the 14th of July. Let's see what a 210hp EK4 can do:dance:
