Honda Ek9 type r
Hi all I'm new to this group and in need of some help please.

I've got a 97 ek9 type r and I've got a loud knocking on the back mainly when going over uneven parts of the road. It's also developed a metallic rattling sound in the last week also coming from the rear, the best way I can describe it is its like the sound an empty trailer makes when towing. I've had the car in the air and replaced the Anti-roll bars on the back but the noise still continues! The exhaust rubbers look good and there is nothing hitting against the rear axle? When the car is stationary and I bounce it up and down it doesn't knock at all, I only get it when driving? What are the next obvious bushes to look at and maybe replace to try and eradicate the problem? Many thanks for your time.

I'd check the trailing arm bushes, camber/toe arms and rear top mounts
Awesome thank you, I've got some time off next week so I'll have a look into those. I check the top mounts too, do you know if you can get the top mount rubbers on there own?

I think it's the suspension (strut/spring). Maybe it's too old and worn and needs to be replaced or the top hat nut is loose and needs to be tightened. I had a really bad knocking sound in my Mazda and it took years to finally find the problem. The center big nut (not the 2-3 nuts/bolts holding struts to car) was loose. It fixed the knocking COMPLETELY.

Hi thanks for the info. I have been scratching my head trying to get to the bottom of it. Do you think that's what the rattling sort of noise could be related too? I'll defo try and tighten up the nuts and see if that's the source of the problem, if not I'll have to try and find some rear top mount rubbers to replace the old ones.

iv got the same issue with my ek9 turned out it was the lower control arm bush

Hi, yeah I've read that it can be those but they look ok and there doesn't seem like there is any play in them? I think I'll try and change the top mount rubbers on the rear shocks and then try the lower arm bushes.

lower control arms
Ah I see sorry. I've never changed them and never had them picked up on any mot's? I've had the car since 2008 and only ever had to change the small anti roll bars links.
