Rate your suspension set up

bit of a question for the guru's of this thread.

i've recently turned my EK4 into a track car. i've stripped it out so its about 950KG's (estimate) i've also fitted some whopping 225/50/15 R888's. I'm finding that it has so much grip the car squats and rubs the tyres into the upper arches. I've subsequently taken an angle grinder and a large hammper to them to allow movement (these will be sorted in due time)

i run a setup of 10KG on the front and 8KG on the rear on some meister zeta r coilovers. i want to run some hard ones and with a huge profile on the tyres i run i can get away with road use as the tyres will soak up alot of the bumps.

any advice on rates to use? i'm thinking 20 KG on the front and maybe a 14 or 16 on the rear???? any help?? just to add the car does run a EK9 rear arb and brace and the car isn't slammed at all. infact its alot higher than i'd like.

p.s. massive tyres give massive grip.

20kg strikes me as overly stiff, think you could get away without the roll bars at that stiffness lol
Although reading back through the thread it seems quite popular to go that high on the spring rates....

I've never ran springs higher than 10kg though so my experience is no better than yours.
You say your catching the inner arch on compression? Tbf you are running 225/50. Is a lower profile not an option?

yes when i say compression i mean with just shear grip round corners. this is without any bumps.

yes i will be getting 225/45's next time. however R888's in my size are £135 each so i want to use them up rather than ditch them plus i do need much harder springs. my 10KG's seem soft.

talked to meister R and they sell up to 18kg's which sounds doable. i recon a 14 on the rear would work well.

the only other issue this brings is i will need to run massive droop on the front springs so that the car sits low enough. it will be like 20-30mm of droop. which should be interesting over the larger bumps. however tein SS's aren't fully threaded coilovers so they basically run massive droop but chodes still rave on about them so i guess i should just stop worrying.

Shorter spring not an option?

what i've asked for.

you still have to run droop though so that the damper is sat lower to make the car lower.

I've had no problem getting the tyre right up in arch on meister r before now and that's with abit of preload on the springs..
Almost chassis scraper low on the standard zeta r springs.
You won't be using full damper travel with 20kg springs anyway?

Unless your already at the bottom of the 1st perchs adjustment?

i have no idea how mate.

my tyres are tucked up so high they touch the inner arch. or did before i smashed it with a hammer and used an angle grinder on it. its still on stilts though.

going to buy some roll centre correcting ball joints for the front to bring it down an inch. then use super strong springs and bring it down a bit.

Well your tyres are pretty large aren't they...
I was under the impression you had a lot of arch gap, now realise you mean ground clearance.

Your tyres are just over 5mm taller than the original 195/55/15s and they are pretty chunky themselves.

MEISTER R ZETA S 8/6Kgf, OEM EK9

For road fun i use 17/32 dampers stiffness
For family driving i use just 4

NO aftermarket CAMBER ARMS fitted, as lowering provides natural negative camber (-1.5 F -2.1 R)

NOT tried Track Yet

Have driven 2000km in a row over the new suspension.

MORE confort, better handling, more grip, not too much bodyroll, ajustable ;-)

For track beginner like me is perfect.

For competition shoul be harder springrates ;-) and added extra camber with camber arms.

RATE 8/10

i used to run kayaba AGX shock absorber with integra springs, for the shock absorbers i was satisfied but the spring was sucky in corners cz it was rolling like a bot in the water , after 3 years i purchased BC coilover , i have it 3 months on in full soft and its very light during daily driving and in cornering its very s talbe , i m very happy for it

indeed, the only poly ARB mount bushes i could find were USDM civic Si ones, for the rear i got ones to fit a UKDM DC2 ITR :)
