PS3 Blu-ray laser repair

Well, the Blu-ray drive in my PS3 decided to give in once again. First time it happened it was still under manufactures warranty. I think that has now long expired so I'm looking to repair this myself.

I only use the PS3 for watching films, don't have the time to play games so not getting a new console any time soon.

Has anyone here ever replaced the Blu-ray laser themselves? is it difficult?

Or would it just be easier to source a complete Blu-ray unit?

It shouldn't be too difficult to swap in a new one but I have had one apart to fix the mechanisum inside and was very fidly so I would recommened just getting a complete unit. Should be cheap enough for a whole new one. Will only take about ten mins to sort then.
