Hi,

I have been doing a bit of searching and seen that some people have ditched there power steering.

But im wondering what peoples opinions are on this especially for a track/race car, is it worth keeping?

For a daily driver or a fast road/track car I would say def keep it

For a dedicated track only car, trailered to and from the track etc then it can be worth removing to save weight and take a belt drive away from the engine, also helps improve steering feel

Still when moving slowly about the pits and parking etc it’s a pain

I wouldnt be using the car as a daily it would just be for track use.

I dailyed my B16 EK without power steering for 6 months, wasn't too bad but parking was a bit of a chew!

I have had a car without power steering before but that was abiut 13 years ago, i do prefer the feel of the steering when out driving but do agree parking is a pain.

Or you can go for a electric hydro power steering like the Toyota mrs and have it switched so you can run both, but if a track car then no point really you save weight and a bit of power

I have got plenty of time to make my mind up but im leaning towards ditching it.

Trackcar id ditch it. The feel is much improved without it

Personally i prefer power steering for a track car, especially when doing endurance you need driver aid to help you as it can get tiring and make you slower.
A well set up car will make more difference to handling,
Take my opinion with a pinch of salt though as im underpowered compare to you boosted guys!

I think im one of the few boosted track guys that have removed it tbh.

I can last longer than the tyres and brakes can.
Typically about 20mins or so i come in. Start to get sweaty lol

Haha i know the feeling, i can manage 45minutes, but give myself and the car a rest and dont push it anymore to be safe.

Haha mine would use a tank in that time im pretty sure lol

Had mine off for years as a road car and don’t miss it at all.
