Belt sounds like it's too tight and putting pressure on the pump bearing.

Defo Sounds like bad pump Paul

he sent pump i said its not working paid £13 to post back and im 95% sure he sent same one back in same bubble wrap i returned it in and is saying its not and it must be my stearing rack thats broke

The rack is the opposite end of the engine bay to the pump, it would be very difficult to get that wrong. The pump is a rotating part, if it fails it's going to make grumbly, grinding noises.

my exact thoughts. take the belt off and the noise goes away and no noise coming from rack driving without power stearing

Ask how long they had it sat on the shelf for. The pump I sold to you was absolutely fine when I removed it from the car yet it was making noise when you installed it. But it has been sat dry for a couple years, if theirs is the same that would explain the problem. Seems that the only way to store these things is full of PS fluid, much like brake cylinders should be stored full of brake fluid!

Hi don't know if this helps or not but iv been told if you use the wrong power steering fluid you can end up with that sound .
Also if you have a little air leak it will also make a loud noise.
Make sure you use the fluid honda recommends to rule that out .

Might help

i was told about the fluid before so i drained and bought genuine honda ps fluid and used it same result

So let me get this right you have tried 3 pumps and you think all are bad? Have you bled the system after installing them?

I'd say after 3 different pumps you have a air leak somewhere or just not bleeding air out .
Fill up cap off start car , lock to lock a good few times you should see air bubbles in bottle if you have a helper

my own pump gave in so bought one from oifovo fitted it and bleed it instantly it started whining. got another pump it worked for about 2 miles then started whinning and packed in so returned that pump he said he checked it and it was fine and said he would send another but 95% sure he sent same pump again fitted and bleed it and noise was instant. I am bleeding the system the way you have said untill there are no bubbles the noise has came directly from the pump on each occasion its not coming from anywhere els

The noise will come from the pump because it's pumping airrated fluid.
The cause of your problem is an air leak of some kind.
Check the o-rings on the pipes going into the rack to start with, and for obvious leaks.
I doubt all the pumps you've tried are no good.
I've got a good pas pump you could try but I'm certain it won't be the pump.

I had numerous PS pumps fail on me.

Ultimately I decided to chuck the whole power steering system. Manual steering now and I haven't looked back since.

Worth considering if it isn't your daily.

thanks for the info bud i will look into it. if air is leaking in there should be constant bubbles coming from the cap when i bleed it would there not ??
