Holy crap old thread. I've dyno'd since the last post I made in this thread. Back in the at Import Alliance Summer 2008 I got my car up on the dyno in heatsoak conditions. It was probably 105 degrees Fahrenheit or so in there. 2000+ cars in attendance, giant slab of asphalt in the center of a race track, 15-20 cars racing on the track on a 95+ degree day, it was frickin hot.

My EJ6's B16A2 still managed 148WHP in high heat which most assumed to be around 165 or so HP at the crank. The dyno guys figured in lower temps my car coulda had a shot at 150+ WHP. Many people were impressed with the results there cause most expected 135WHP. Apparently my flywheel, intake and exhaust helped more than everyone thought.

I'd post my dyno chart but I can't seem to find the little SOB right now.
 
Techy those are great numbers for a b16 with such mild mods, it must be in great shape!
 
probably needs a new timing belt in the near future and the transmission could be in better shape (a few bad synchros) but the engine itself is kickin ass and taking names. Even my Honda Specialist mechanic (who was also at Import Alliance that day) was impressed. Before I went up he said it should make 130 or a little higher.

I love the thing. Still pulls as hard as ever.

Had my B16b ek9 RR'd on Saturday at AI Autosport N.Ireland

The car made 187.5Bhp at the flywheel 169.8Bhp at the wheels and 114 torque:)

Im happy enough with the results

SPEC:
-Dc2 Airbox
-DC JDM 4-1 manifold
-Standard exhaust
-Standard ECU

The car needs mapped to make the most out of the manifold as peak torque and Bhp will only be achieved with the correct map. I also feel that the standard exhaust is restricting the car and defeating the purpose of creating more flow from the 4-1.

for a standar engine is very good

do these tuners just make up numbers when converting "flywheel" power to
"wheel" power? thats a question i would like to know the answer to!

i ask because i have seen so many prinouts that confuse me.....my car was rolling roaded last at 185.5bhp flywheel power and when converted to whp it was 147.7bhp.
now stephens above was near same flywheel power but near 20bhp more when converted to wheel power!
thought they all used the same conversion method.

Now when on a wheel dyno, it's supposed to measure WHP only, right. I'm wondering where you are getting Flywheel numbers. I always sounds to me they are just making that **** up unless you're motor's been on a motor dyno.

Cheers Bud, the conversion between Flywheel and Wheel horsepower is calculated from the drag created by the car on the rollers when they are slowing down after the run.
My dc2 was RR'd at 205bhp which only worked out around 172ish at the wheels. It all depends on the car and mileage on the drivetrain but I have also heard that it also depends on how tight the car is strapped down but i am unsure. Had a run with my old DC2 recently and they were gear for gear exactly the same speed:nice:
 
think they use 15% loss sum when converting into whp,well close to that

Its not just a general equation used for every car bud, it is calculated by the drag created on the rollers by each individual car after the car is reved to the max Bhp and it is slowing down.

When I had the dc2 RR'd, there was another dc2 with half the mileage of mine and even tho it was producing less HP at the flywheel it was only loosing 20bhp at the wheels, were as mine was loosing 30bhp! but as I say I have been told my the guys who run Dyno Tune near Ballymena that this figure can be affected by how tight they strap the car down on the rollers and that they just go by the flywheel figure when tuning their race cars

Yea I know exactly what you mean, the best use of a dyno would be live re-mapping but they do give a rough figure of what the cars putting out and personally I would just go by the flywheel horsepower.

The best way to test your car is to get it on the quarter mile strip or on the track imo!
Im lukin forward to doin a few more mods, gettin some better tyres then doin a few drag runs and possibly a blast on the track:naughty:
 
OK, y'all are gonna have to explain how your dynos work cause all I've ever known is ones that your drive wheels sit on rollers and the dyno measures only wheel horse power and engine dyno's that an engine sits on measures flywheel horse power.
