pdapaul's YellowSpeed Time Attack EKK24 on ITBS

Well done buddy!
Shows how important engine response is in the tight stuff, plenty guys behind you running a lot more power than you!
Cheers matey :)

The track was perfect for my car, especially when it rained!!
Made a nice change to have the odds in my favour :nice:

I'd imagine you can run a much more aggressive alignment aswell compared to big power FWD?
Yeah I can imagine it's hard work trying to chase these guys at timeattack, esp the long tracks.

Yes I'm using their Stage 1 drop ins. The stage 2's give a little more bottom/mid torque, but I don't really spend much time under 6k, so not beneficial for me.
Ive made a conscious effort to stay away from dyno figures, as I'll get too involved in them. I believe that roughly over my jdm cams they gave approx 10bhp across the board

I know what you mean about dyno figures as you take peak figures with a pinch of salt, I fitted a pair of RRC cams and an RRC intake and the car is making great power although my tuner expected slightly more from them but it seemed like something was holding the car back at the top end and he had to pull map back a bit which may have been my exhaust (spoon system) or the exhaust manifold (ktuned 4-1)

You seem to have the car going and handling great now!

Hi mate just wondered if you discovered what was the problem with your bias peddle box as I have a swmotorsports bias peddle box too and I'm having exactly the same trouble can't seem to get any braking on the front at all I've set up bias peddle boxes before and this one has got me me baffled
No matter how I set it the brake peddle is rock solid and there's next to no front brakes if any at all is this the problem you had?

Hi bud,
I can't help I'm afraid! I got disheartened with it and I'm now back on the OEM brake servo. Best decision I've made. With an in car bias I find it really controllable, and gave been able to find a really good balance.
If you know Neil Wrenn he has his set up pretty sweet I think.

I've just re-read your post, and yes that's exactly the same problem I had. Even trying different diameter cylinders didn't cure it!

Thanks for that I'm afraid I don't know of Neil
I was beginning to wonder if it was just me but I've used the same method I've alway used when setting up bias peddle boxes and just can't seem to crack it! Think I'm going to give it one last try over this weekend and if it still doesn't work I'll go back to a 1" standard m/c

Great weekend with UK Time Attack at Croft. It's the closest to home for me, and a stunning setting for a fast flowing track. The weather as ever was set to be unpredictable, so we had brollys at the ready. I was really looking forward to the round as there was something to aim for whatever the weather. If it rained I knew I could do quite well with a decent set up, if it was dry there was a FWD NA lap time set by Neil Holden, that I had to aim for

Warm up

The rain had really started to come down, so it was wet settings all round. It looked like it could be wet or damp all day, so I wanted to get a feel for the track and pushed quite hard towards the end of the sessions

Practice
The weather was still intermittent, so it was a toss up between a wet and dry setting. We opted with a compromise of standardise settings, but still with road tyres. The times came down, but the guys who opted for a dryer setting started getting heat in the tyres so we dropped down a little.

Qualifying
After the lunch break, and a couple of public track times the track was pretty much dry. It had left a slightly greasy surface on some corners, but it was dry settings all the way. As we had no info it was the usual routine, outlap-2 fast laps and then in for tyre pressures. After setting the pressures I got settled on the outlap, and then put some quicker laps in. The times quickly dropped into the 1:39's and I felt confident there was a little more. I cooled the car down for a lap, and knew that crossing the line it was my last of the session. I pushed hard, and crossed the finishing line in 1:38.58..a new record!

Final
There was a slight understeer that we wanted to try and dial out, so we made changes to both pressures and suspension. It quickly become obvious though that the changes had unsettled the car a little, so when the session was red flagged we were able to make adjustments to get the car back to where it was. I was quickly back on the pace and into the 1.38's, but traffic became a problem for the first time, and I had to back out of 2 quick laps. I'd finally managed to get a clear track, and get ready for a final lap push....as the chequered flag came out!!! A little bit of a frustrating end to the day.

Really pleased with the car and how I drove overall. Every time out I feel better in the car, and the adjustments we make help it found the track. Next stop Rockingham...

As every massive thanks go to the guys that have helped me get the car to where it is.

It was a great day! Car looked good and sounded amazing coming down the pit straight! :D good luck for Rockingham!

Cheers matey, it's been a really good year tbh. The car is developing nicely, and every time I go out the little adjustments make itvetter to drive. The car had only been run for 1hr before the first round so I wasn't sure how everything would work together, so pretty much all development has been done on race day. The changes I'm planning over winter should be completed in good time, so I plan to test the car thoroughly before the start of the season

(1-6 Gear Ratios: 3.266, 2.13, 1.517, 1.212, 1.028, 0.921)

I had a standard final drive in for Snetterton which is one of the longer tracks so wasn't as bad. For Oulton & croft I had a 5.1 which made them super short. I'm going back to OEM now though as next it's Rockingham, and I'll hope to be doing 130+ round the banking :)

**** me this thing pulls like a train!

short ratios are epic dude... nice video as well looked a good laugh :nice:

Coming up to Rockingham the only changes we made to the car was to change to a longer final drive, and replace the front tyres with something larger. I've suffered with understeer throughout the season, so thought I would get a larger tyre to try and help. Also the larger rolling radius should give a better top end so it was win win. I went for the Kumho V70 and can honestly say that they are a fantastic tyre, and if you get a chance to try them I wouldn't hesitate.

Warm Up
Having never driven at Rockingham, and the guys putting the fear of God in us at the drivers briefing I decided to utilise the session to get my bearings, and also get a good eye for some markers on the main straight. As I'm a little down usually in the speed traps it was imperative that I could keep my foot to the board on turn 1, so spotting my turn in point was crucial.
Although the day was dry there was still damp on the track, so for the first 4 laps I got to grips with the track, and get some heat in the tyres. After a quick pressure check, I started to up the pace. It was slipper than I thought, and as I came full drift sidewards onto the straight I knew there maybe wasn't enough heat I the tyres yet haha.

Practice
The damp had clearly cleared as the grip was evident after the first lap. I felt I had some good lines through the infield, and pushed harder especially into the chicane (Pif Paf). The lap times came down, and keeping my foot flat on the straight made a good difference to the lap times. Mid session I pushed a little hard into Pif Paf and had to make quick avoidance to miss the corner bollard and take to the grass. Pulling back onto the track I had a quite check of steering etc and then got down to putting in a fast lap. I put in 2 strong laps, and then came in for a quick once over in the pits.
"Can you check my splitter"
"No it's gone!!"
"Oh!"
That would possibly explain the car feeling a little looser
I went back out for a couple more laps just to get settled in the car again knowing the splitter was no longer there.

Seemingly I don't drive too badly with a loose rear ha ha

Qualifying
I felt quite confident going into Qualifying. I was sure I could at least match and possibly beat my practice time, so I set out to really go for it. The only change we made was to soften the rear a little, to try and get the car a little steadier especially in the chicane and the very hard corner Tarzan. Despite my best efforts I was stuck in traffic for the first 2 or 3 laps, but by getting a feel for where the rest of the field were I managed to get some clear air. I put in a banker, and got down to putting in a belter. I put everything in, and the lap timer showed half way round that we were coming up on a great lap. I kept it fast and clean in the final sector and as I crossed the line I knew it was a good lap. As I got out of the car everyone was smiles and as I looked at the times I saw I'd managed 3rd. Absolutely stoked!!

Final
I decided to keep the car as it was in quali, and I felt there was more time in my driving, than in the set up. I got through traffic early on, and has a few laps just off race pace. I wanted to see where I could pick up a little time, so tried a couple of different lines on the infield. The track temp was increasing, so I had half a lap to get up to temp, and then I was on it. The lap felt good all the way round, and as I crossed the finish line I was back in the 1.39's @ 1:39.7. I had given everything, so I came into the pits for a quick pressure check. I was in fourth, and was told that I needed 4 tenths to move up a place and my first podium! I was straight back out, and got settled on the outlap for a massive push. It wasn't the prettiest of laps, but I gave it everything I had, I tried everything I could think of to bring the lap time down. As I crossed the line it showed I'd knocked at least 3tenths off but was it enough??
Er..no
I missed out by 7 thousandth of a second!!
Although I was disappointed, 4th was a fantastic result, and I came away knowing I'd given everything!!

So that's the last round done! Time for a rest, and get the parts together for improving the car for next year.
It's been a fantastic first season, and I've had a brilliant time both on track and in the paddock. The car has pretty much been faultless all year, and although it has lacked a little pace in the dry, it has been prolific in the wet. With a bit more power, and a few other subtle changes I hope to do even better next year.

As ever, the support I've received has both been invaluable and appreciated in equal measure.
