hi all,
doing a bit of painting in 2k matt black but can someone help with the mixing,
its a custom kind of paint so no guidelines as such i was thinking , half a litre of harderner to a litre of paint and quarter of a litre thinners???

also should i lightly sand it with a high grade paper between coats?

Mix it 2-1+between 5 to 10% thinners

No need to sand between coats, go for 2-3 coats with a flash off time of 10-15 minutes between coats, the paint will start to go off if left in the gun to long

very general. But i guess you should be fine. Maybe 15% thinner and see how that works for you. You don`t want any runs. If it`s celly your spraying can`t sand between coats.

Touch the masking tape after 15-20mins and you should feel a slight drag on your finger, like you would touching hot tar, thats when the next coat should go on.

Do yourself a favour and buy a pack of these:

Starchem Plastic Polypropylene Paint Mixing Cups 600cc - Pack 50 | eBay

They have all the mixing ratio's on there so its as easy as making a cup of tea. Remember, 2k is usually 2:1 mixing ratio, so 2 parts paint to 1 part hardener. Regarding thinners, thats as up to you and your gun on how much you want to reduce down to, if in doubt, try a test piece first! I always use old panels from old cars I've had laying around. As a general rule I usually (not always) mix in 10% thinners, thats with a Devilbiss GTI with a 1.3 fluid needle and 110 air cap.

Another note, when laying down your paint, knock your paint flow down and apply one light "grab coat" first, this coat will act as a decent foundation, allow that to tack off, then followed by 2 full wet coats.

Hope this helps
