Right Guys i need some pointers - i went to a body shop today because i have some major scuff marks on my front and rear bumper and its either £100 per panel or she can do the car for £700 (without the roof) ..

Being stuck with a budget I want to give things a go first, Im going to try and paint the areas my self after all the prep work (i have all the gear i need) but can I possibly blend the paint in? as some areas of the car are lighter than others? or would i be able to apply a compound and buff out the imperfections and any possible overspray?

Are the scuffs deep? What I'd maybe try is get some p38 filler from halfords. Sand down the surrounding area and fill in the scuffs. Sand it down with, not too low, but mid low/high grit paper say probably about 800? Not sure.. But sand the filler into shape then use higher grit, slower working up the grit grade. You should get a nice smooth neat finish that would blend onto with the body work. Then clean that area down then prime, paint & lacquer.

That's how I would kinda do it for a cheap job. Have a look on YouTube. Loads of how to vids :)

Oh no ha i know about all that I'm on about the actual paint work .. because the lady at the paint shop said that she can do the bumpers but they might look "newer" than the rest of the car.. thats my issue

Its a club rate because im part of a car club and its in Rainham .. but for a student 700 is alot bro

You're probably better off using one of the mobile guys if its just tarting up you need.
I know a really good guy who's around my area. I'd have to check if he travels to Romford but if you want I can PM you his number.
He resprayed my drivers rear panel. Amazing job.

would be nice if im in your club :naughty: yeah ur right mate if u still a student would really be a lot but if ur patient and kip saving money ull get there in time,

I like giving things a go .. so thats why i said id like to have a crack at it .. my issue is the paint on the bumpers looking "newer" or more crisp than on the other bits on the car

my question is - can i use like a cutting compound then a polish and wax to get it to that same "newer" / crisp standard?

IMO don't try it. If you have no previous experience leave it to a professional. Although at that price I'm not so sure it will be a decent job though. Blending is not an easy task even for some professionals, let alone hobbyists.

£100 a panel is not bad IMO. Tbh all depends on the condition of the rest of the car, if all the panels need some attention then why not save up a lump to put towards respraying your car.

By the sounds of things you haven't had any experience spraying before? I highly wouldn't suggest that you attempted to paint or even blend. Most professionals don't even blend and just do panel to panel because its so much easier and quicker even if it costs for the little bit more product

yeah i havent done much spraying - i mean ive done my bike frame, and im going to do my alloys wheels .. if all else fails then i guess ill have to be a mug and pay for a respray

If she gets a good colour match you can polish the rest or your car to look new. But 700 quid for a re spray aint bad whats there work like.?

Not sure mate i was just getting quotes .. so youre saying if she was to respray my bumpers, i could buff the rest of the car if the colour match was good enough?

Just get her to do a panel and check the colour-match yourself after you give the whole car a compound, if it doesn't match then get a full respray.

Honestly, it's hard enough spraying a car and getting a good finish, let alone trying to blend the paint, which as said, is very difficult.

Just for the paint and other consumables I would have thought you'd easily be looking at £100+

well i said id do the prep work my self.. i guess youre right though have her do one panel to colour match, buff the rest of the car and see the results :thanks:

the code is B81M which i believe is Honda Comet Blue, google Honda Initial and its that colour blue

Thats alright then not to bad to match. But blues always look so nice freshly painted so you will need to polish the rest of your car right up but it will look good after.

Maybe worth flatting and compounding the car as well see how much they charge for that.

thanks for the advice Shaun that was my plan to compound the rest of it to make it all match or see the results
