any1 ever installed OS GIKEN LSD ? i got some questions about its behaviour , when i start the car with low rpm and steering wheel in the middle it goes smooth , if i turn the wheel and start again easy easy it starts kicking , i want to ask if this is natural behaviour !?!?!? i dont know if its 1/1.5/2 way though cz its second hand

Yes, this is very normal behavior from a plated lsd. I had one in my old B20 build.

at low speeds whilst turning, you'll hear a clunking noise and the car will judder.
at high speeds whilst turning (obviously not full lock ;)) you will not notice anything at all

As above, get used to it lol

i dont have problem cz i drive it 3 years now but ppl as my opinion here in greece they never see an os giken lsd before they use oem or cusco and they dont know the behaviour, so they used to say that my axles are damaged they check the axles and they are ok so they say that the lsd is broken , but i tell them if it was broken the whole gearbox would take some damage and i m so glad that u clarify that its just the behaviour so i can shut their mouth

OEM lsd's are helical, plated LSD's are hardcore even racer's have come to me & told me something's broken it really makes me smile if I have time I explain to them it's the LSD

I've got a KAAZ, and it is loudddd!! I nearly have Haitch the keys back when I came all from the test drive :)
It's a great marker though for corners,!if you ever hear it you're not going fast enough!!

Same diff as mine.
It is very loud and very snatchy at low speeds. Worth every penny on track though!

hhehehheehhe i m not going fast enough thats very good point thnx for the tip :D

I remember it was raining when I picked up the EK. You quickly learn not to have itchy nads anywhere near roundabouts! Snatchy :)

well at corners in normal driving ppl are looking at me and whenever i stop they say to me " bro something is broken at your car" and i always laugh at them :D

haha plated diffs are a heaven and hell mod for a street car

my cusco 2 way is brutal at low speeds but worth every knock and clunk when pushing on

it piss me off in the city but i dont regret it i dont unistall it , its image anyway ;)

The kicking and clunking noise as above all saild, is normal. But you can reduce it depending on the oil you use.
I have tested some different race transmission oils for plated LSD's, and some of them make the gearbox sound really bad, despite working nicely during high speed turns or hard charge.

The porblem is you can't use a thick oil with these Honda gearboxes, and these plated LSD's want something a bit more viscous and consistent than the usual Honda MTF fluid. Just find a thick enough oil which can survive with the synchronizers/gears and the LSD; I mean, a thin oil slightly on the thick side, special for limited slip differentials. With a viscosity similar to Honda MTF.

There are also other variables (race use, hot or cold climate, etc.), but you will be fine with the above information for street use and your country's climate.

Video is private bud, cant seem to watch it

I recently fitted a Spoon LSD and like said its a nightmare at low speeds, I keep thinking something is going to break

Im running 10w40 semi engine oil in the box which I always run on the track due to it being slightly thicker and working better for me at track temps. I also change after every event

I tried adding half a bottle of Redline friction modifier and it hasnt made much of a difference for low speed turning

nah its ok i m used to it now but thnx for all the guys that assisted me to understand that this behaviour is natural cz i modified my ej9 str8 to this b18 with this gearbox , so i didnt have any past experience with oem gearbox thnx :D

Good :)

Spek9, maybe instead of engine oil you should stick with normal Honda MTF + friction modifier (of your choise). Despite both thin engine oil (such as a 10w40) and Honda MTF are nearly the same viscosity, their composition is different.

It's true with the old Honda gearboxes back in the day, some people used -like you- medium viscosity engine oil on their gearboxes with success, but not for track use...

Our track has 2 high speed straights which seems to put a fair amount of heat into the box so when using Honda MTF it gets too thin and the syncros start to catch slightly, we then switched to 10w40 engine oil and gear changes were smooth even after 15 hard laps

honda MTF is equivalent to 5w30 engine oil viscosity wise so thats why I chose to go to 10w40 because its slightly thicker... I change after each track event, its cheap enough and works better than MTF on track for me

My only concern was the noise and catching at low speeds with the plated LSD but it does seem to have calmed down a bit and I now know its normal for a plated diff to act that way
