Alright lads as some as yous will know had my fair share of keys over the last few years and decided to take some time out as me and my fiancee are saving for the wedding at the moment. I am now wanting to buy a car, however wil leb financing for 3/4 years and will need to be semi practical and more or less standard with still some nice aftermarket parts and good power.

My problem is this on one hand i would love to go back to an evo as the missus knows that is only really the car that would make me genuinely happy to drive. on the other hand after the amount of money i had to spend on my last evo this does put me off. As anyone will know who has owend an evo if you dotn buy the right one they can cost you big time.

My options are as follows:

1. buy a new ford focus rs jampsort - comfortable, good power, nice looking and also get a warranty

2. go back to a standard evo 9 with low miles and exceptional history

3. go for a new evo x in white

4. Go for a golf r32, cheap tax bracket, sensible and still great performance

I am due to drive an rs tomorrow as it will be my first time driving one however i am really drawn to them and it is also completely different to the evo

Anybodys input would be much appreciated

thanks :nice:

Dan,

I test drove an RS before buying my FN2 and I was going to take it over 3 years. They are fast and look cool on the outside. However the interior is pretty poor and is the same as a standard Focus imo, (it didn’t do anything for me). The one I test drove had 11k miles on it, and was averaging 18.5mpg over the past 2000 miles. I thought about it after driving and I just didn’t have the want for one anymore. I think the FN2 interior is much better than the focus.

If it’s the Evo that you want you should go for it.

R32 would be cool though, sound great!

Never had the pleasure of driving any of these, but my money would be on the white evo X, was a nice one by JRM-Racing in redline some time ago. Password jdm do some nice upgrades for evo X.

Don't blow that amount of cash on a car... Think of all the other stuff you could buy with £30,000.

Honda!!!!

Honda civic FD2 would get my 5door Honda pick!

I do love the evo's but can't really justify the running costs

I would say fd2 man! But out of the ones on the list golfs certainly the most sensible and are really nice all round cars but if it was me ad go evo!

RS out of that bunch for me, as much as I wouldn't buy one myself.

Mate had an Evo X, constantly needing "little things fixed" for the whole 12-18 months he had it..

Blew a piston out the side of the block a few months ago too, so he's now kicking around in an M3 V8.

Same thoughts for different reasons in my mind too. I have never considered the ford, but the evo 9 is on top of the list alongside with the Audi s3. Handles great, looks even greater and has loads of torque and power. I wouldn't choose the fd as a daily/family car, an evo or the s3 seems one way street for me. Having worked in a vw/Audi dealership I can say that neither the r32 or the s3 are what you call you call exactly "reliable" but not as shite as a ford. I have worked in ford as well the time when the first rs was released and I wasn't pleased to see such a long awaited car having problems.

At the end of the day your buying the car for you, choose which ever one suits your lifestyle and financial needs not what other people suggest!
