I'm looking to fit an oil catch can as i've just cleaned out my I.M and don't want it getting all dirty again from the hot oily vapours. I've searched for info but it's all so confusing. I have an ek4 which isn't highly modified, just bolt on mods. I've just purchased a Cusco catch can which im regretting now as I should have purchased a vented one. Am I better off selling this and then buy a vented system or just drilling holes into the Cusco one and fitting a breather filter to it? I read that the Cusco hose lines are too small in diamter to allow it to catch the oily vapours? Also I have no idea where the second hose connects to, I know the first one attacthes to the valve cover. Any pics or diagrams of your set ups would be much appreciated.

This is my setup

I had the top of the can tapped so I could screw in a fitting and attached a pipercross breather to that. The bracket is attached to the battery tray to avoid drilling into the bodywork. The two hoses attach to the valve cover and the PCV valve (The red thing on the intake manifold or on the black can on the back of the block) although I will be bypassing this in the future directly into the black can.

This setup does not work with the PCV still installed

PCV valve opens due to the vacuum of the inlet manifold, if you are venting to a vented can you have to bypass the PCV directly and put your hose straight to the black box on the back of the block

:)

Ahh still so very confused to witch set up to go for. I know that the vented catch cans are better as it relieves crank pressure so I will be attatching a breather filter to the Cusco can. So all I do is attatch one hose to the valve cover nipple which is usually attatched to the air intake, and the second hose goes straight to the black box under the I.M?

Correct, should give you plenty breathing for a standardish setup

one hose from rocker to breather
one hose from black box to breather

cap off PCV vacuum on inlet manifold
cap off valve cover breather hole on intake pipe

Only once you go high compression / turbo etc when you need to consider much more advanced breather setups

Great thanks for the help! :nice: Any pics of this would still be great help :D

Edit: Another quick question, are the hoses supplied with the Cusco kit a large enough diameter for this to work properly? Just that I read the Cusco kit is quite rubbish...

Slightly better pic, this is how mine is setup

Will need 9 or 10mm tubing i forget, but i just run them to an old juice bottle, it has no lid so is effectively vented

Nice and cheap to do, waaaayyyyyy cheaper than the endyn kit i bought for the new engine :|

Adjusted mine to bypass the PCV last night... here's how it looks now:

Great stuff guys thanks. Decided i'm going to sell the cusco and just get my own made up that looks a little more subtle.

Tim - that will be why the hose off the block is still clear as the PCV has been shut constantly

Just to double check...So I plug the second hose into this?...

I know its over kill for my stock-ish engine but I do plan to build on the engine in the future and plus it looks good :D

here's mine. I think you can get more detailed explanations and better finishes by some people on Honda-Tech (got the idea there anyways).

in a nutshell, 2 vents under the tank went into the block and 3 from the valve cover.

That looks great! A set up like that would be overkill for my stock-ish engine so I'm just going for the 2 hoses, one from the valve cover to the catch can and the other to the black box. Just need someone to confirm that the second hose connects to the black box in the above pic.

Black box is under the intake manifold. Lucky for me my intake is already off :D
