OEM EK9 LSD service Limits / Test from owners manual

First post, hopefully not breaking any rules or missing the obvious.

Did some searching, can't find this information, hopefully its been posted somewhere.

I have read somewhere there was mention in the EK9 owners manual of a "test" that can be done to the car to check how quickly the OEM LSD engaged, and to tell you if the LSD needed to be serviced/replaced or was still within the proper service limits. The post about this was a bit vague, but it was in the owners manual, not the service manual. Meaning this "test" could have probably been done with jack stands at most.

Does anyone have the EK9 owners manual and know what is being referenced here? Anyway to post up what those specs/measurements/procedure is?

Another side to this might just be is there an English translation of the EK9 owners manual floating around anywhere?

So I just found the non translated version of the EK9 owners manual on this site, and to me it dosent look like this "test" is in there. There is very little mention of the LSD (small portion of one page), and there are no numbers or measurements listed.

So I have to assume the person who posted this up was mistaken.

I'm going to see if I can find a English ITR service manual to see if i can find it in there.
 
They're probably referring to the Rotating Torque Check, as per this from the Service Manual for the ITR. Good luck finding anything EK9 specific in English.

No worries man. You'd be the first person I've heard of who might actually do the test... you'll have to let us know how it goes! I guess it depends on having the right tool though too. I don't even know what a "beam-type torque wrench" is, haha.

Beam types are the super old school torque wrenches, totally mechanical. They have a needle gauge on the front.

I don't actually have one either, I have a digital torque converter that should work though. It looks like the test is just measuring resistance.

I am going to try it on a B16B and Trans a friend has in his car, and hopefully on a B18C and trans he is swapping in a later date. Right now the plan is for that B16B and transmission setup to end up in my Sedan. I'm really interested to see if these LSDs are still good after 20+ years of being beat on.
 
This was my original post. Posting under a different name as for some reason my "Error" account got removed and i cant get it to work anymore.

I gave this a try using a TQ converter block. its a digital unit that sits on the end of a regular wrench to make it read tq. Because it reads the force, rather than has a setting for force, it should be basically the same.

That said, this test is hard to do in practice. Am I supposed to try and spin it as fast as I can, or just get it moving? start at the bottom, or the top etc.

in the end, I did it a bunch of times. I've come to the conclusion that my OEM LSD is working, and is probably very close to the service limit. Sometimes slightly above, sometimes slightly below depending on how I do the test.

Id like to hear others results if anyone trys this, and your method of trying it.
