"Noprep" K24 ek

Ive spoke to a couple h2b lads and it seems like a headache tbh
It's not to to bad:run:(not me trying to convince you to come to the H Series lol) tbh the h2b is a waste of time imo, a full H is the way to go but back to the post at hand, loving the build bro, gonna get a new intake manifold cause i can assist if you still aquiring parts buddy.:secret::nice:

I Do love seeing people still rocking a h swap but parts and support just dont seem to be as handy up here in scotland. Ill let you know! Think we are sound for now, @RyanSi has been digging through his spares piles which has been a great help!

Got a bit done at the weekend chucked the new UJ onto the rack and fitted brand new inner and outer tie rods with boots so we have steering again. Still need to loop the PAS until i decide what im doing with it but chances are ill do the same setup i went for with my dc2. @RyanSi fitted a k20 water pump and thermostat setup that he had sitting to allow us to use the ep3 idler pulley so the aux belt clears the engine mount. Next up we permanently fixed on the inlet with the new t7 stacks inside and the ep3 throttle body.

We then made up a fuel system and return utilising the oem filter with a banjo, torque rail and fittings, a tomei fuel pressure regulator and a set of rdx injecrors i had sitting that i had planned on fitting to my dc2.

Mocked up most of the engine loom bar the alternator as we dont have one and the plugs for the cam position sensors are toast so need replaced. Lucky the k24 came with a donor loom we can rob plugs from all in good progress. Id like to keep this prject a slow burner to avoid ending up skint but you know how these things usually go. I will be prioritising getting the integra ready for its mot in may but ill keep the ek updates coming when i make any progress.

Good times ahead! Had a night in the garage with the lads, ate some pizza and did some bits with the ek. Fired on the shifter cables to find out the fake ktuned shifter is awful so ill be picking up an oem one next chance i get!
1000081596.jpg

I then pulled the fuel pump which was shockingly clean and changed it for the grams 320lph version for a bit of reassurance and it also makes a hella buzz on startup!
1000081602.jpg

We then fired her up after changing out the crank position sensor for a k20 one to match the loom. I still need to change the file on the ecu as its on a k20 map but it was enough to fire her up.
1000081600.jpg

But the most important job of the night.... was the 5 inch tachometer! Any honda head has seen that old grainy "just a lil 4 cylinder" video from back in the day so it was only right this build got that! Thanks again to ryan as he set it up for me. I know its pure cheese but its so funny. It even has a shift light

Fair way to go now but id say we are over the hill now with it! Loving the direction its going in being able to just have a laugh instead of stay strict with the styling like the dc2.

Well after some thought (and a lot of youtube and instagram influence) i decided i was going to have a go at making a drag style wing for the ek. Did we do some r&d? No.... did we wing it by eye using a couple of inspiration pics on google? Absolutely! I picked up a half sheet of 1.5mm alloy and ryan grabbed some rivets and his gun and we got to work. Ive been a joiner for 16 years now so measuring and cutting came easy and i have all the tools to do so.

1000083158.jpg

And this was the end result! Over the moon with it. Ryan suggested the black rivets for contrast but i think it adds to the whole asthetic im going for.

Good night in the garage last night. When i got the civic i also bought a set of vti rear trailing arms for £150. Ive put off doing them as its always a risk that youl snap bolts everywhere. So i got stuck in either way.
1000083970.jpg

First up, rta bushes, did a wee exchange with @kanjabrer for the replacements as hes going full poly so i fired up the cut through anything saw and had the new bushes in and done in no joke 15 mins.
1000083972.jpg

Excuse the discs, once the car is moving ill refresh the brakes fully.
Next up was pulling the old arms, i just chopped the flexis as ill get all new replacements next time i order bits. Shockingly the only casualty was a camber bolt which was easy access with a grinder to get it off.
1000083978.jpg
1000083974.jpg

i even managed to get the full handbrake in working order again so we are all gucci for a fat burnout when the time comes!
1000083976.jpg

Ill need to add flexis onto the list along with upper and lower front balljoints so the car is decent enough all round for an alignment.
slowly but surely the vision is becoming a reality certainly a world away from the dc2 in every way so far
1000083982.jpg

Also managed to get a replacement fuel pressure guage for the rail then ryan adjusted the regulator and wired up a fuel cut off switch on the dash under the big ass rev guage.

Next up i need to start on the cooling system, drive shafts and get rid of that awful ebay shifter as its absolutely terrible. I honestly cant see past the oem dc5/crv for a k swap.

Updated my dc2 thread and now doing here, the dc2 got a new shifter so i chucked the oem dc5 into the ek with the stinky oem knob. Both lighter and a better feel than that chinesium billet one i had. If anyone wants the old one you can fish it out my bin.

1000085737.jpg

Had to do a small cut on the centre console again to clear but this aint no show pony.

Had a night in the garage with the lads so decided to try and relocate the rad. Chopped the old aircon brackets off and made up a mount for the rad to sit on.
1000086269.jpg

crude but it works! I also made up a little rad stay and cut out the upper support to make room for the rad.
1000086271.jpg

Oem ep3 upper hose works a treat but ill need to do some jiggery pokery with the lower hose to get it to work. I then bend up the oem bottle bracket so i could run the expansion tank on this side.
1000086273.jpg

Once i fit a fan there wont be a huge load of space under the inlet for an intake pipe so i might just run the pipe over the gearbox. I have contemplated fitting a dirty air scoop to allow cooler air in and maybe even vent off the rad too. The bonnet is damaged anyways do it wont hurt to do some experimenting

Ek update. Got a chance at some banded steels which will be ideal to fit some fat rubber onto when the time comes, not a fan of the stretch but the tires are legal do will do for now.

1000089060.jpg
1000089062.jpg

I then decided to get a start on the driveshafts, again ryan came to my aid with some used ep3 items, i ordered up some outer cvs and got to work.
1000089034.jpg

Only one issue....i bought ones for an ek4 which were too small. So had to order jr 32mm items.
1000089042.jpg

I gave my garage a tidy up and rattled out a boot floor with some plywood i had lying around and some cuts of carpet and rubber.
1000089030.jpg
1000089032.jpg

While tidying i found a cut of perspex sitting and reminded me of an eg i saw on instagram and thought id give it a bash for a laugh as ill be changing the tatty front end to pre facelift. It looks horrible in the best way possible.
1000089038.jpg
1000089040.jpg
Lastly i took delivery of a full 3 inch exhaust system for a great price which has a 2.5 flange at the front. I also found a suitable flange to connect it to my kswap header in a pile of scraps in the corner of my garage so i just need a bit of welding and a donut gasket and we are golden.

Hopefuly next update the car will be moving under its own power

Not gonna lie, love this and the design, i had a board cut out but can't find it, just let me know if you decide to produce more of these :x::dance:
If you are ever in central scotland shoot me a message ill rattle one out i always have plywood in my van

Oh man bro. According to google i'm 4,656 miles from you since i'm in Grand Cayman:alone:, this sucks lol
Damn thats a trek maybe not then.

Love the 3 inch exhaust, what company yoy got it from?
I think its just a custom/home made system to be honest. Looks like its been modified a few times to fit different cars.

Got stuck in to the ek today again. Even had my daughter help for a bit. First up i got the shafts built, got some 32mm outers from j&r.
1000090187.jpg

Got them in and filled the box with mtf3.
1000090191.jpg

While the hubs were off i did bottom balljoints as im positive they were knocking so the fear was real.
1000090189.jpg

The old ones came out without too much of a fight too which was ideal. Next up i fitted rear brake hoses, budget limits meant oem rubbers will suffice as i dont have the funds for braided steel. But if it worked for 30 years it will continue to do so.
1000090193.jpg

Excuse the discs, i will do a brake overhaul in the future. Got the rears bled up enough to stop the car while moving it but i have fluid there for a full system flush.

Next up was the exhaust system. I chopped the vband off the header as the system retains the oem style flange which i had lying around. I also found some spring bolts sitting spare too and cut a clutch bolt to use the head as a bung for the 02 sensor as im running open loop.

Full system tucked under the car really nicely in all honesty. Plenty clearance with the car being close to stock ride height too which also meant feeding the rear over the LCA was straight forward. We then adjusted the throttle cable as i still have the d14 item it required some fuckery with washers to get it good. Adjusted the tps using the doctronic software on the laptop and double checked the map file. Fired her straight up which was a great feeling. The following morning i moved both cars out to wash the dust off them. Nothing too serious but was great being able to pull out under its own power!

Top tip, remove the reverse switch when filling up the gearbox oil. think its a 27mm depp socket required.
Main reason i say this, i once broke my speed sensor trying to remove it to fill it with oil

Thats a good call tbh man ill keep that in mind! I just used the diff plug/overflow as i have a hooked pipe on a hose to reach down into it.
