Hi all,

I am about to stroke my B16B engine with a B18C ITR Crank, rods and pistons P73-00

Got this crank from a water damage 98 ITR B18C block

Together I got 7 pistons P73-00, 2 rods number 24, 1 brand new rod number 23, 2 rods number 3. But I am getting 4 new rods number 3.

I was searching for the connect-rod bearings color, but letters on my crank are W and 3-X-X-4 and 4 which is visible close to the R on the crank

I asume it has to be W-X-X-W

What color bearing should I use for rods if my rod number is 3???
Cause the tablet gives color for crank letters A-B-C-D

These are the bearings in order (thickest to thinest) Crankshaft Main & Rod Bearings

Laskey Racing Online Store Here is a bearing thickness chart.

Use a good set of old bearings to work the required clearence out. ACL are around green.

Also, do not store a crank like that as it can warp. You need to do a dummy test with that crank to make sure it spins freely. Make sure you check and recheck all clearences.

PM me if you get stuck with anything.

Hey Rich777, thank you for your reply.

I dont have a good set of old bearing, I am newbies in building engine.
My car is a daily drive car, and I dont want to have it standing for long.
Thats why I would like someone with experience in stroking B16B engines and knows the bearings color for my crank and rod matching, to tell me the exact code color so I know what size bearing is the closest to my project.
Do you think I can re-use my main-bearings or is it better to replace all bearings?

My Crank: W-X-X-W
Rods all are number 3

Btw, I have just lay the crank there to take the pictures.
I will have it checked before I install it even I think nothing is wrong with it.
Just to make sure.

If the bearings are in good condition and the clearences are fine there nothing wrong with reusing them.

I'm on Holiday at the moment and havent got the bottom end info with me. The letters you need to go by should be "A,B,C,D" though... PM DV8 on here and ask him. He should have all the info you need.

Well if the B18C crank I have had a A B C or D on it, I would have know the bearings color a long time agoo!

The reason I started this thread is because my letter are W-X-X-W
I am thinking maybe USDM Cranks comes with ABC or D.
My crank is from a JDM B18C donator car '98 ITR.

Numbers marked on the rods are 24 and usually USDM rods have numbers 1-2-3 or 4.

I saw on honda tech, they have a thread from 2003 and a member mentioned the crank code W and X with rods 24. And he says his color code came out brown, brown and brown, green. Somewhere he had a mix which is possible. But I can't find out how he came to these color for bearing, neither where exactly are the positions on the crank.

I think I will go with ACL as they are close to green and green is close to brown.

Sorry i should have read it a bit better as i just flicked through it. Use ACL but make sure the clearences are OK. See if you can get a set of these for the B18. http://www.civiclife.net/board/topi...ain-rod-thrust-engine-bearing-set-civic-b16a/ From what i know they are the company(s) that supply Honda there bearings. Try contacting them...

BTW, you need some plastigauges.

The link you provided, they sells bearings for B16a only. There is no option for B18.

I will go for ACL, it seems to be the best choice for now to start with.
I contacted DV8 and he dont has a tablet, he did profesional measurements for getting the correct bearing size.

I know I will need some plastigages, they should be the green ones as far I am informed.

Here I got detailed information and guide: How To: Plastigage Your Rod/Main Bearings - Team Integra Forums - Team Integra

The proper clearance for the mains are:

-Bearing 1 & 3: .0016" - .004"

-Bearing 2 : .001" - .0035"

-Bearing 4: .002" - .004"

The proper clearance for rod bearings is:

-ALL rod bearings: .0008" - .0028"

Also video's are available for pastigages:

Do you still have the block the crank came out of?

The bearing codes are stamped into the bottom of the block under the sump gasket

If you want to work out the proper bearing size you would be better measuring the journals of the block with the crank caps torqued and measuring the crank journals and then doing all the sums

If you do the maths to work it out you are still best to plastigauge the bearings of course when installing to ensure you did the maths right

Sorry that I couldnt be any more help... hope you get it sorted mate :)

I know, thats why i said contact them lol.

PM me on monday if your still stuck as i will be home.

I think I wont do the maths, I understood how to do it and I'm good in maths, but I dont have the micro meters with .xxxx" or .xxxmm for this job.
I will buy the ACL bearing full set main, rods and thrust and plastigage them. If the come out to be bigger I know how to make them the correct size for propper clearance. But if they are to thight, aww I will have to get the correct size bearings.
This crank I bought from a local guy, but I dont think he has the block. He ripped it apart by a garage and left the block there about 6 months back.

Dont worry, I know if you could, you woukd had helped me.

Would like to add information to this thread, if anyone else is looking for rod bearings for the B16B.

Instead of looking at the Service Manual for Civic, the B16A2 (USA) you will need to use the integra service manual. The letters the OP is referring to is from the B18C1 / B18C5 page.

Some additional information that someone may need in the future with the multi color bearings. This comes from a tech at honda that has been building honda motors locally for enthusiasts on the side.

"The Type-R engines came factory with much finer tuned bearing clearances than say mass-produced GSR or B16 engines. The TypeR cranks also had additional balancing from factory and to aid with even oil bleed off/higher pressure, the clearance can be adjusted which is why you can have 2 different colours. This also was done to maintain a proper clearance as the crank journals wear over time. I hope that makes sense.

So if you look at the chart...

For example if you have a smaller rod journal ‘X’ and mid size big-end bore on the rod ‘23’ you would use a GREEN (top or bottom doesn’t matter) and a BROWN (top or bottom).

But if you wanted to run the engine abit on the loose end you could run GREEN/GREEN or even a GREEN/YELLOW.

That chart is to set up the clearances as-per factory. So if your original bearings looked decent you could order the same colour coordination that came out of it or go 1 step looser. I wouldn’t recommend going 1 step tighter unless you measured the crank" - Coupedup
