My new wheels, 17's hell yeah!

thank you everyone who was nice and likes them :) to everyone else consider a few things:As much as you all think JDM=15" it's simply not true, the hottest things in Japan right now are chrome decals and HUGE chrome wheels, furthermore if you watch BMI you will notice that civic's rarely have 15" on them unless they are in the rear, most run a staggered 16/15 setup. But why does nobody run that setup?

JDM does not exist, what people think is JDM is actually people from Southern California copying Japanese style from 1998, then the rest of the world copying either us or them mostly us though (sorry guys its true though). I am not being an elitist but the scene started here, that's just a fact you are all welcome to look it up and see where all the import drag racing started, the first minimum 100 records of fastest Honda's with various setups are all from California, where all the USDM import tuning companies are located and opened up there first shops, where the oldest tuners of Japanese cars are etc... Furthermore many JDM companies have there forged pistons/rods made by US companies, and all HKS turbo's are made by a small US company called Garrett, there are many more examples as well.

Time does not stand still, JDM is only a philosophy at this point and to each there own. You cannot say this or that is JDM, it doesn't work that way, a good percentage of people saying that 15"=JDM probably have Rota wheels and think its JDM.

I personally will put on any part i like maybe JDM maybe USDM, i have no desire to be categorized, You will seriously limit yourself if you wan't to be "so so JDM". Some of you may be surprised to learn some Japanese parts are really junk, some of the more experienced users on the site may know what i am referring to. I don't mind if people don't like my wheels, i just urked when i see people throwing around the whole "omg i don't like it cause its not JDM" crap, the whole JDM thing is sooooo over...

hmm, looks okay. but i prefer smaller alloys on ek9s
Good think i don't have an ek9 ;)

imo 16's would be perfect. but i have to say you have a clean car there, mate :nice:
16's do look great also!

I'd only ever agree with 17's on a Civic if it had some mental brakes, otherwise it's needless weight, doesn't look as good and won't handle as well..
Actually the car handles better with larger wheels and shorter tires, weight is about the same, maybe 2lb more per wheel.

dont think they'll start a new trend or make a "come back" just because a well known member has put 17's on his civic. if it was a new member everyone would be telling him to loose the 17's right? they dont look too bad but i wont be goin for 17's ill stick with the 15's and maybe get the 16's sorted for winter wheels

I wasn't aiming to have them make a comeback on this forum  Most people saying they will make a comeback live in USA and i agree with them, trends in USA especially the heart of the scene in Southern California always change, 17's will come back, trust me...

I personally think it looks great

I have a soft spot for big wheels I think it suits the car just fine man

Good job, good to be different

thank you :D

I think they look pretty good. Need more pics though! :D

Will do as soon as i get my camera back from my sister :(

I think they look great. I love big wheels. I had 17" KEI's on my 1st civic! :)

So true.. Categorizing things will only limit yourself.

@topic ... 17s do also look good on EK hatches. I saw few who pulled it off nicely. I like the stance of blinx EK on 17s but i just dont like the design of the wheels.

@blinx ... I have great respect & trust in you with regards to technical & engine department but i think you more advise when it comes to aesthetics. lol

hmmm not my cup of tea... and its not the size... its more the design of the wheels... now some te37's or some ce28n's... I'd be pure ***...

ps. i do agree on what u said about not wanting to be labeled, however i dont think the wheel size issue is necessarily about being JDM or not... it is recomended that u do not go over 2 inches of the wheel diameter, that the stock wheels have... meaning if the car comes with 14's its not recommended to go over 16's... so i've heard...

Spoon EK9 with staggered wheels - R17 infront and R16 at the rear:

We're both correct :)]

 Aaaahahahhhaaa! I looked at the same vid so we are both right!

@ blinx your rims look :nice: :nice: great bro, but the reason why I don't like anything more than 16" is you will lose some acceleration and gain top speed, and low pros suck. I guess the only good thing to have 17" or more is for bling purposes which I'm guessing what you are doing (like the look)!

the beauty is in the eye of blinxholder..lol

nice!! i like it

Thank you everyone who said nice things  i didn't want to quote everyone as it would be a really long post haha!

What you are referring to is plus sizing and my wheels are within the plus sizing method, the goal is to ensure the external diameter stays the same as to not effect the MPH reading and final drive ratio.

My OEM wheel size is: 14" with 185/65/14 tires which have a diameter of 23.47" my 17's with 205/40/17 have a diameter of 23.46", i am .01 of an inch off from factory spec, not too shabby if you ask me, MPH and gear ratio should be dead on what they are supposed to be. Come on people, you know me, i don't mess around with junk and micky mouse things!!

Read above statement, with correct tire size this is not an issue.

I've always loved those rims.
I'm guessing you been in the game for a while then, not too many people seem to remember Dazz and RacingHart, i never thought the day would come when RH wheels would be "old school"

I really like em...... I've had 15'/16'/17' wheels on my hatch and have found that larger diameter wheels handle better than the stock 15's. Sometimes I don't get the Honda forum community...... if a tuner like Spoon or J's puts 17's on a Honda it's "MAD JDM YO". If anyone else pulls it off with any success, it's a fail. Tuning is all about creativity and individuality. For everyone else....... ROTA Slipstreams!!!!!!

Rock the 17's, they look great!

haha I agree

Btw blinx , do they rub on the arches at all?
