My h2b eg6 sir2 civic/ headgasket blew b18 turbo time

Bit more progress on the build, engine and rebuilt 98 spec s80 with 96 spec 4th and 5th now in the car, few minor issues to sort with exhaust and an electrical problem, possibly something to do with the altenator/ wiring or possibly the ecu. Tomorrow il get a look. Car is running fine and it charging but my dash is lit like an xmas tree, have abs, battery and eml on aswell as a light to show iv a door open when i dont. Pretty strange, iv checked the earths and altenator wiring but i will look into it more, maybe tye altenator plug needs repined or something.

Anyway il be happy when all sorted but as for power its pretty fast, iv had a fair amount of b18s and this is another level, wish i had a longer 5th tho as its reving pretty high at 70mph in 5th.

Nice one man. YA ah still unlucky about the engine haha. Ya knew it looked raised but no point ruining one of the nicest exhausts u can get.

Must be cool having a 2.2 litre in a hatchback hahahaha

Havent updated in a while as usual but the car has went another fair bit since i did . Iv had the engine back out to sort the power steering issue, fit an excedy stage 1 and fit some hasport mounts, i made up an iacv relocation kit, converted to ek throttle cable.
Manifold was opened to 3 inch and a full 3 inch system was fitted using solid fab and vibrant boxes
Custom airbox was made with a custom bumper duct
Car is now mapped by ap performance and made 240.2bhp and 177ft lbs

Iv taken the advans off as a bagged a nice straight set of 15x6.5 ssr type c's, yoko ad08r tyres were fitted

Absolutley loving this car, not the car i want to drivee veryday but it definetly put a smile on my face on the days i do drive it

love it, cant beat a clean black EG imo and you've done what im wanting to do on my other EG, the k killer h2b swap

Did you build the h2b yourself? im tempted with the plateless brough kit too, looks fairly easy to do from watching his videos. You had any issues and how low is the sump, any pictures?

Yea i did the swap myself. I would advice using an updated clutch, electric powersteering, iacv relocation and solid mounts before you think of setting an engine in.

The brough kit seems good so far, engine sits nice and far back and it still handles like its a b series car. I wouldnt say its a k killer, both very simialr i reckon. Im building a k swapped mb6 at the moment with decent mods so will have a fair idea on the pros and cons of each. I know a k series car would make a better daily, my h2b setup is screaming at high revs at all times with the gearbox i used. I never need 4th gear for an over take unless i need to get the speed up real quick. I have a standard dc2 aswell and the h2b im alway 2 gears higher than the dc2 would be at the same speed, both 4.7 gearboxes. Basically if your building a daily h2b iv read a s9b with 4.7 would be good. I hope that helps you with your build

No clearance issues at all, i dont think the sump is any lower than a b18. My car is fairly low and i do drive it hard on irish roads witj absolutely no bottoming out issues

it seems very close from the videos ive watched, h2b usually has the k20 off the mark but the k usually just edges ahead later on

sounds like the engine sits good, is it close to touching the bonnet or passenger fram rail?

hows the electric power steering? does the rack have a different feel to it?

Your clued up on this because thats exactly what i think.

As for clearance issue, its pretty close to the strut tower, the bracket that holds the loom plugs had to be trimmed, at the back iv about 45mm to the bulkhead from inlet, up top mine was fine till i put the plastic cover over the altenator wiring, it touches but its fine.

Steering seems ok, my rack has play at the moment so hard to tell exactly, wont know now till the car is back out next year with the problem sorted.

sounds close but aslong as you dont have to hammer the frame rail id be happy! did you import your brough kit or is there a UK supplier?

this h22a7 in a EG looks to be running normal power steering so its do-able, he's taken a notch out the front slam panel and wonder if that was it

I bought it direct from brough, dont think there is anyone in the uk doing them.

Power steering definitely wont work with this kit, i think with a plated kit and relocate the pump a bit lower with an altenator relocation bracket, the engine will be sitting further forward and therefore give better clearance

will send them a message hopefully its not too much extra on customs. I cant see there being much difference if any with an electric pump, not like its an electric rack, plus you can turn the power steering on or off

Do all the b series coolant hoses work and do you have any online info on how to wire the thing up?

cheers

I got caught by customs on my kit so it did work out expensive for what it is. These kits could be made so easily, its crazy money for what you get, iv seen loads of threads on american pages where lads have made their own kits, the intermediate shaft bracket would be the tricky one to get right. Write to rice brough himself if your on facebook, hes very helpfull.

Yes the hoses work, my misimoto lower hose was short so had to change back to standard, it does need pulled a bit and does lay against the torque mount bracket, mine hasnt wore but i am keeping an eye on it, b series hoses are grand for a plated kit id say with the engine being further forward.

Another thing i had to make was a plate to mount the throttle cable bracket on, ek cable to tidy the bay up

As for the loom its easy, use obd1 dizzy and injectors, there 3 2 pin plugs that need changed if i remember right so 6 wire chop unless it can be repinned into h series plugs and then you have your altenator wiring to extend, also im running an ep2 altenator which can be fitted faily easily and has still has the 5 rib pulley same as h series. For some reason 3 different h22 altenators had my dash lit like an xmas tree.

I blanked my egr and had it disabled when mapping

Thanks for the info, all sounds fairly straight forward

yeah im so tempted to make my own, would save a lot of money, am i correct in saying this is all you get in the kit?

Looks like top mount for trans to block, rear bracket for shaft, front bolt and bracket and not sure what the other is for ( one with a G on it )

The bracket with the g on it is the timing belt side mount bracket. There a new v5 kit with a new lower front gearbox to block fixing. If your making one id advice looking into it as i feel the older kit didn't have enough fixings

Havent been on here in a while but just come on to update this a bit.

Soooo as usual when i update i need a new engine, well yes and no this time. Just over a month ago i had a catastrophic head gasket failure out of the blue, all fluids were fine and there was no signs of overheating. I havent stripped the engine at all it has just sat at my garage since.

The plan for this now is probably to go turbo as i have a very good mb6 conversion there. H2b was a fun setup while it lasted, it put lots of higher power cars to shame over short blasts, it also done my head in on long journeys. Anyway that my reason for going turbo, aiming for 350bhp but also looking a perfect gearing setup to go with it

Sorry to hear thar dude. Car is a beauty, good luck with turbo. But are you selling the h2b kit

Never came across this build before, Good car and lovely spec. What was annoying about the H22a on long journeys out of interest, Gearing?

Thanks man.

Yea gearing was too short, 3 inch exhaust ment fairly loud so sitting at 70mph was hard enough to deal with. In saying that coming home at the weekend when the sun was out the h2b always put a smile on my face scooting the local area.

I know in the states alot of the street h2b boys talk of using the ls or b16 boxes and ones over here say a s9b with 4.7
