My EK9 - Spoon Type One

Not updated this for a while. Around a year ago now my card had been burning oil and was smoking at high rpm, this was gradually getting worse. I ended up replacing the valve stem seals as this was the first step. It didn't cure the problem. After having the car stored over winter my dad and me went about rebuilding the engine.

List of some of the parts replaced and work done:

Head steam cleaned
Ferrea 6000 series valves
Ferrea bronze magnese valve guides
Honda OEM valve stem seals
Blueprint waterpump
Gates timing belt kit
Koyo tensioner
Spoon Sports genuine head gasket
Riken Piston rings
ACL main crank bearings
Honda OEM manifold gasket
Sump Gasket

A few photos from the build:

All this work was carried out by my dad and me helping, I can't thank him enough for putting up with me. Done 100 miles since the rebuild.

A few weeks ago on my day off I decided to treat the car to Autoglym clay bar, Autoglym High definition Condenser, Autoglym High definition wax. This works great, gives the car such a shine and the paint is really smooth.

Since owning the car there was always a bulge in the rear bumper and a crack in a few places. I finally got the bumper repaired and painted:

After the rebuild I treat the car to a couple more parts, Tegiwa X brace with strengthening bars, this was a bit of a pain to fit but got there in the end. I also removed the rear seats, not sure if I'm going to keep it like this but I never really took people In the back anyway.

I also got a carbon bonnet, had a few issues with this at first as it had lacquer peel quite bad down both sides. I have had the bonnet repaired, polished and buffed. It's hard to get pictures of the weave but I'm quite happy with the look. I went out as it was a nice day and took a few pics:

C&C Welcome

Great work on the rebuild, the bonnet also looks really well on the car!

Nice work on the re build, did you hone the bores? What tool did you use if so?

Thanks bud, glad you like it. I was unsure on the bonnet at first but it's growing on me.

Thanks, yes the bores were lightly honed, we used one of the all in one kits that you can buy one ebay, they are provided with the stones aswell.

Looks class mate, bonnet definitely suits it :nice: I wish my dad was like yours and could do rebuilds haha, you are lucky. Hope the fresh engine goes well :))

Just read the whole thread, Great work! How's it with the rebuild done?

Much appreciated, It's hard to tell this early on as only done 100 miles. Going to do 500, drop the oil and then drive it a bit harder and see how it goes.

Thanks bud. Yeah it's definitely very handy, and I get to learn by watching and helping out aswell so it's all good :)

Awesome update Nick. Love this car, still one of my favorites.

Looks smart mate, I like the bonnet. Iv got one for my car but I'm unsure if I want to fit it.

Thanks bud, I was the same quite undecided. It's growing on me though. Does look black from far away though and when close the carbon shines :D

looks mean with the bonnet! is the engine running sweet now?

Glad you like it. Hard to tell at this stage, not been going passed 4k rpm and varying revs. Will soon seen after 500 miles and oil change then will give it some beans. It still pulls really well at bottom end anyway.

How you getting on with the car mate? Some good work done since I last looked on here! Don't want to sell it anytime soon do you :p

Crikey this thread hasn't been posted in for ages. Not too bad man, still having a couple of issues. Deciding what route to go next. Tempted for a turbo or kswap but it's persuading myself to part with the money.
