My DIY attempt at EK9 style headlight

Put mine in oven last week. :(
Then I popped into living room and sat down because something good was on the telly.

Totally forgot about my headlight lol
I'll try get a picture up of how not to do it.

great write up - been searching for a decent write up on this for a while, particularly with the right colour! Just got a spare set of facelift lights to try this on, hopefully they'll come out as well as these :)

Didn't have much trouble with mine all turned out okay, fiddly bits are the glue holding the lense on, pulling lenses off were a bit of a ball ache. To put them back together I used the original glue on lense / lamp unit popped it back in the oven to warm the resins/glue back up then tore up 6 prices of rag (3 for each side) wet them and them with the glue still warm placed the lense back onto the lamp unit and tied the wet rags around clamping the lense and the lamp creating a good solid hold (the wetness of the rag allows for tighter knot) worked a treat no fogging or misting :) very good cheap modification would recommend it. There are tutorials on YouTube which helped a lot. Also make sure you're oven is big enough, you do not want the lense touching the hot walls of the oven!!!
My finished result.

Also imo don't go for gloss black/ dark grey paints, they give a cheap plastic appearance!

It's odd enough for an original Honda headlights without any "HONDA" or "STANLEY" and dot approved series number on the lens.

Hi bud, just wondering how did you mask off the indicator to get it perfect?

Thanks

That's an authentic ek9, aka vi-rs, headlight.

You can paint it over the amber indicator with whatever paint you use to mimick the ek9 finish.

But I thought that the indicator wouldn't flash as bright after you spray over it? As its not chrome anymore

Are you talking about the indicator or amber reflector? The amber reflector is only a reflector, so it doesn't flash.

Philips or Osram has indicator bulb in silver color, but flashes amber.

I'm on about he chrome bits around where the indicator bulb locates.
I thought the chrome but around there is meant to be kept chrome hence why I didn't spray over it.
But masking that off is quite hard to be neat

Oh yeah, that part is supposed to be left chrome, which is how the authentic ek9 headlights work, by masking it off when you paint it. Masking is the only way to do it since it's a complete one piece shroud.
