My '98 Spec Mugen Equipped DC2

Thanks again for the positive comments, appreciate it :nice:.

So I took the 'teg on a ring trip and it was awesome, flew from Newcastle to Ireland to collect the car, drove it back on the ferry to Cairnryan then drove to Newastle, Got the Newcastle - Amsterdam ferry and drove from Amsterdam to the ring. The car never skipped a beat and was so nice driving it again. First things first I got the car prepped for the trip:

Alignment/Tracking done as I got the rear RTA bushes replaed with some OEM Honda items, they made the little car feel even tighter than it already does. OEM settings used, I'd usually run a bit extra rear toe out but I wanted the car stable at higher speeds for the 'ring.

Twinloop whoring:

Pic of new J's decat installed:

Also noticed the car has had some new OEM Honda front control arms installed:

Endless ME20 Circuit compound pads installed on the front, Endless on rear currently although compound is unknown. These are the best pads I have ever experienced and sometimes too good as my DC2 is a non-ABS model. Very hard and powerful bite, I found they overcome my blueprint discs on the ring and caused some heavy vibrations through the car after some heat was transferred. Some Dixcel/Project Mu discs on the cards next.

Track wheels fitted with my Hankook RS2's, these tyres really come to life on track although watch out when there is some moisture thrown in the mix.

Ordered and fitted a new CUSCO BMC stopper about an hour prior to the trip to give me some extra braking confidence, great fit and quality, Can't bring myself to throw replica items on the car.

Brand new Mugen Gen.1 Oil cap fitted, The gen.1 matches the era of the car which I like.

Vantegra packed up for the trip ahead:

On the ferry:

Dirty tramp along with my uncles 911 and my daily peeking the background:

Autobahn loving, OEM speed limiter still in place :(.

Shameless stolen pic:

And another:

Back and back to the work carpark:

The memoir:

Car performed very well on the track being in basically stock form engine/suspension wise, I have found myself in the typical situation where I want to make it a bit stiffer for the circuit but want to enjoy day to day, might have to look into something a bit stiffer than the Mugen setup though. I really am enjoying DC2 ownership, actually went to one of those driving sensation things yesterday (Present from GF), drove the Ferrari and Lambo, Lambo was a bit cumbersome but fast, the Ferrari was more of a drivers car and as great as they were the drive home really made me appreciate the simplicity and direct feel this DC2 gives me.

Fiesta & Mini make the DC2 look like a toy car, 90's styling FTW!!

Great update there sir !

Looks like the DC2 performed well which is not surprise, new discs and your ready to rock again :drive:

I would keep the suspension as you have it btw as it seems a good compromise.

What a beautiful DC2. I'm a bit gutted I live in Yorkshire, don't seem to be many true Honda enthusiasts near me :(

Love this dc2 looks fantastic, Cool mods as well

Who did you import it through if you dont mind me being nosey

Thanks again for the kind words guys.

Banana, I imported it via JM imports here in Newcastle.

So I have been enjoying the car this summer so far but I haven't been doing a lot to it apart from cleaning it and keeping it clean. Few little bits I've done:

Gave Recaro's a good scrub with the trusty old woolite:

New clips, bolts and stuff from Honda:

Cleaned the underside of the bonnet with some poorboys polish as it used to be brown...

Before:

After:

Replaced all 4 of these push type clips as anyone with a teg will know they seemed to be only designed to last once.

New bonnet prop holder as mine was broke as per usual with these:

So pretty minimal upgrades but I like to have everything in it's place and working, Still amazed at how little this thing rattles and bangs in the cabin, My mums 52K mile, 2006 EP3 rattles.

Kind of a shame at the same time because I have to be pretty careful how I mod it as it would be a pity to lose the ride quality

So after nearly 4K miles I can confirm the engine is definitely not an oil burner even using the Motul 8100 5w40 which is known to burn off quite quickly after a good blast!.

Little video from the ring, a very cautious lap being my 2nd one and it being wet, not to mention the Hankook RS2's don't like the first sniff of moisture, if you get bored you can skip to the end, little run up the straight with a MK5 R32 Golf w/breathing mods, stock DC2 didn't do as bad as I would have thought.

Looking great Kris, liking the attention to detail

Thanks guys :nice:.

But yeh, I f**ked it, Bought some Cusco Zero 1 coilovers for it.

Said I wouldn't, but I have a trackday coming up, 4th July, Croft.

A sentence from Cusco's Japanese website made me laugh "want to take the family bor girl friend along on weekdays comfortably, but wants to challenge that pass or track on weekends."

Was planning some spoon discs, but I decided on Freakyparts grooved discs for the front to hopefully help with the shudders I get after a lot of braking. This saved me some money and this suspension popped up.

Will review these parts once I get them bolted on.

Nice car did u remove the limiter??

I need to get round to doing this if/when I head back to the ring as I hit it a couple of times round, cuts out circa 130, just like my yellow EK4 SiR did. Damn limiters!

Hopefully the coilovers won't be too bad on the road for you but they will be awesome on the track!

Those discs should serve you well, ordered a set myself to match a set of carbon Lorraine pads on the front

Thanks guys, Yes Stephen the CL pads are seem to have a great reputation, good buy! Hopefully these discs hold up as there very good value for money it seems :nice:.

Bit of a poo story with the coils, Paid for them to find out they had already been sold :(, so no coilovers this time round unfortunately. I was genuinely gutted!

But I used refund for other things of course :p.

Bought a Mugen intake, Gen.1/Non-ABS DC2/EK9, had a lot of doubts about this fitting after a lot of research and questions and even a thread started in here, I had my doubts but after a bit of measuring, I went for it and it paid off, fits an absolute treat and has really made it feel more lively along with an awesome sound when on the big 'lobe :D. Have a new sticker in the post for it as the current one has seen better days.

Heat shield installed, used some heat reflective tape for the snorkel part, if Mugen thinks shiny, reflective material is a good idea, so do I.

Some new oem bolts to mount the intake:

I spent Saturday at my aunties house after a lot of planning for all this part screwing as I don't live at home these days and I don't have many tools etc over with me... but managed to scrounge up a couple of jacks and set to work on the car, Could not believe there were no hiccups, not even an arch liner clip broke lol.

Got to work and fitted my discs I received from freaky along with some cleaning of the suspension, arms etc... went on a treat and the pedal feels 'stronger' which must be due to the thickness of the new discs also the bite has improved as well with the slots. Really impressed with these so far, can't wait to see how they get on in track as I'm hoping the slots will clean the debris from the endless circuit pads once a bit of heat gets dissipated.

Plenty of meat still left on the pads.

I also bought a dual core radiator for her too, I want to try get a strong Japanese theme going so found this dirty looking Fwin radiator made by Tabata-R in Japan. Cleaned up an absolute treat and mounted up easily, quality part! Filled her up with fresh coolant, took just over 4 litres, a fair bit more than stock.

When I bought it:

So yeh, It all went to plan and I'm very happy with all the parts and the car, Track on Friday to test them :nice:.
