I just installed an MSD external coil on my EK9. Can anyone tell me what ignition timing setting i should run with the external coil or should i leave it at the stock 17 degrees.

I thought stock was 16? :nerv:

Seeing As These Cars Are Designed To Run On 100 Octane I Would Be Setting The Timing At 15 - 16 Degrees especially as best fuel most of us can get is 97 RON

can anyone tell me the conversion from RON to OCTANE? do they measure in RON or OCTANE in japan?

out of interest is there any advantage to having one of these external coils, what benefits do they give
cheers

Japan and Europe use a system called RON or Research Octane Number to determine the octane rating of their gasoline.

Three different octane numbers are used to determine fuel resistance to detonation. RON, MON, dont know third one.

( RON Octane Rating x 0.95 = AKI Octane Rating )
98 RON Octane x 0.95 = 93.1 AKI Octane (US measure)
100 RON Octane x 0.95 = 95 AKI Octane (US measure)

Taken from US Octane VS Other countries Octane Ratings

External coil suppose to deliver more power than the stock internal one. Since i installed mine the car feels more responsive at the slightest touch of the accel pedel... from 2000 rpm to 9,200 rpm. The rev counter moves steadily and when it gets on Vtec the rush down to the redline is smoother. So i can it is working for me.
