Moving from Vbulletin to Xenforo

I like the current format. Nice and simple but it the newer format is easier to work with and less hassle for you then go for that :nice:

Thank you guys for your feedback, I'm planning on making a migration test and share with you a temporary address so you can test the interface, and if you guys like it, I'll make the move :D

Any news on this? I posted about enabling Tapatalk but seems you already did with limited success. Transition to Xenforo might allow it to work properly? I'm open to a mobile version, I like Tapatalk myself as it's quick and easy. Look forward to testing the new version.

I already tested it and I have 2 BIG issues.

1. Forum layout, I can't make the forum to work properly on the /forum URL and a different front page on ek9.org..
2. Forum theme, I'm not a web designer so its very difficult for me to make xenforo look similar to the actual ek9.org theme

I'm saving money to pay for the theme :D :nice:

:nerv:

Please dont integrate the forum with facebook!!! I beg you haha, keep forums and facebook separate.

I am also a big fan of the current layout, but I am not a mobile user, laptop only.

100% agree! Very anti Facebook!

I use it on my mobile and I pad all the time with no issues how it is.

I understand the software support will be an issue.

FB integration, If I ever enable this option it'll be completely optional :nice:

The biggest problem is that the current forum software; is not compatible with php 5.4+. Vbulletin is realeasing a new version, but they want the owned license holders (like me) to pay 300$ for the upgrade and its not going to happen.

But as today, I don't have a plan on moving it to xenforo in a near future since I can't "clone" the current theme to xenforo.. :((

Woah 300 dollars! Bit steep!

What if forum member contributed? Only be once?

Asking for donations can be an option, but I think its just too much money for a software "patch" :nono:

Ok, I'm doing a test install now.

If anyone has experience with xenforo themes or can help in any way please contact me :)

I have general HTML/XML/CSS knowledge and would like to help. I think our aim should not be to copy/clone the current theme 100% but to make it look similar and giving it the same feel even though it wouldn't be 100% the same.

Also I think we should migrate as quick as possible; if the software is not maintained the forum gets more vulnerable every day.

When will the changes take place? I actually prefer it the way it is. As it has like the newsfeed style of home page.

The current format, IMO, I prefer it more than any other format.

But you're the boss lol. If there are glitches that need to be sorted out then I guess it's time for a wee change

I see :)

I like the idea of it being "mobile" but I also like the style of this forum as Ally said. Probably just because I am used to it.

You are the boss, if you feel it will better the forum with updates/support and mobile then go for it I say!

I know nothing about these things, I'm just a user. How customisable is the new platform? I really like the news feed main (home) page too, and I think I would miss that. I find the current lay out very easy to navigate, much easier than many other forums. Also the integrated google search bar is very handy as it is often more accurate/easier to use than the forum search tool. Whatever you do I'm sure people will get used to it. Thanks for the hard work rvm!

EDIT: Also, I have no issues what so ever viewing the forum on my mobile, so what do you mean by Xenforo being mobile ready?

I agree with the above, the current format/system looks much better and is easier to use. The newsfeed home being the standout. It's also unique in the sense that most other forums use xenforo or similar.
A vote or pole could be a good option when it comes to deciding.

I like the forum the way it is, user friendly and easy to use.
Is there a requirement to change?

IMHO there is a big issue why we should move as soon as possible: the software is not maintained anymore. This brings the current forum in the same position as Windows XP: every day that goes by is another day an exploit can be found that will never be fixed. So every day this software is a bigger security risk.

The current theme can't be copied, since its very old, its not compatible, I found a vb 3.8 "style" theme and we can work with that using css.

That is correct, for example, the current forum software doesn't support php 5.4+
