Hi all, ive just had my 1999 civic back from the garage it failed on emmisions. The car is a 1.4i and has had a fairly new cat fitted and post lambda sensor fitted. I sent it for test and failed on cat effecency. Both the sensors are working fine but it still failed. I took it down the road to get it really warm and the readings were practically the same any ideas on how i could get it through test many thanks buzz

You tried the first lambda sensor?

Yeah thats working aswell its passing the lambda part of the test just the co2 part keeps failing.

Mid wales. The car has finally just passed test! The co2 level on fast test was supposed to be 0.300 or below to pass mine was 0.750. So i went and tried some forte gas system treatment and then took it back i only did this as i had only just fitted a new cat and lambda sensors. About a month prior to my mot. The results this time read 0.595 so judging by that id say it did something worthwhile but still not a successful pass. So i decided to put the old cat back on after repairing the studs at the one end that had snapped off when the exhaust was changed and took it back and well it passed with a reading of 0.035 now that is a significant difference. Im a qualified mechanic so after fitting the non genuine cat i assumed all would be fine... Moral of the story dont buy non genuine items they are s**t. Thanks for your replys guys

Good to see you got it sorted mate. I'm having the same problem with nct and I put in my cat and still failed. Only thing is i put it through when it was cold. Can anyone help

Try taking it down the road and getting it hot. Try forte gas fuel treatment that lower the emissions a fair bit. Combine the two and you should be laughin! Failing that a bloody good service of the engine new spark plugs ht leads and the usual filters.

Will do. I'm also changing the oil this weekend don't know if that will help. The only thing is there is a seriously strong smell of petrol or something could this be a reason

Strong smell of fuel might suggest your cars running rich. Best way to tell is by looking at the spark plugs if its running really rich they will be black and sooted up. Have you got your engine management light on?

Sending unburnt fuel into the cat is the best way to destroy it. So running rich enough would damage it.

I had this problem with my 9 recently, took it out for a sprited drive for 20 minutes came back and it was back in the green, the mot tester said it was mainly down to lack of use of the car.
