Mil spec engine harnesses

The "race" don't normally seem to come with them, but would you like an obd socket wiring onto it?

I would say it would be handy for people without kpro, I have one built into my ktuned conversion harness.

My car has kpro and I have a cable and the software but I never even look at it as it's just for remote mapping changes when I need it. Can you tell me, can I use the kPro software to look at faults etc if my ECU map is locked?

I believe so yes. It's only the cal. that's locked, all other functions such as datalogging, faults etc should be fine.

I think I'll offer OBD, it would be handy if you had a Bluetooth dongle or scanner for quick checks.

Cool.

I do also have a wifi scanner that I can use on my phone or ipad for quick checks so it would be handy

Had a play with some of the connectors I've already received to get a feel of best way to do things. Learnt some extremely valuable points, which should certainly help with building the looms and also keep the quality.

Most important things I learnt are

A..the crimpers were worth every penny. The crimps are pretty much OEM.

B I hate teflon coated wire :) ha ha

To give you some idea of the quality of cable for the mil-spec.
First cable is mil, second is OEM Honda engine harness

And more connectors have landed :)

A, B & E ecu plugs and pins

I'm still waiting for the other connectors, but as with all of these things what I originally intended has grown into other products.

So the looms I'll now be building will be

K20 engine looms mil & non mil
K20 interior race loom- basic & fusebox
Full interior plug and play race loom -will include cut-out, flick switch ignition and push start.
Kswap looms, all varieties
OBD pinout- Pre loomed OBD ready to plug straight into plug e of ecu
Narrow band - wideband o2 harness
Wideband- narrow band o2 harness
K20 plug and play push button start

All looms will be customisable inc wideband or narrow band options, tagging, Nomex, mil or non mil

I'd be interested in any other products you think would be good, or your thoughts on the above.

Cheers

I think the mil spec k20 harness is going to be approx £400. The "race" loom inside the car will range from £169-£299 dependant on what you would like on it. The basic harness will have all of the relevant connectors and relays, but quite simple. Here's a mock up I did at the weekend

If you wanted an internal fuse box adding, then I've found a nice modular system that would give you 4 x 25a relays, 6 fused outputs. I would then add a longer power cable to it, effectively giving you permanent and also ignition if you added a switch. That would be £299.

Don't mean to sound like an arse because the quality here is way in excess of most of the wiring we see on forums, but you need to be a bit more careful/precise with your crimping to call in MIL-Spec. You have no insulation clearance and excess wire through the crimp in the examples you have posted pics of. I'm qualified to do wiring for satellites so I do know what I'm talking about, not just forum trolling and keyboard warrioring. They do look good though what you have done, Can't deny that!!

Hi bud, not at all, I appreciate your comments. It was more to show the crimp tbh, as I was really pleased with the results. I bought dedicated "teflon" strippers and tbh they were shite, that's the reason the bared back insulation is different lengths.
I do mean it though, if that was finished products I'd rather people said something who are more used to the process. I will double check the ones I have set as complete though, as the points you've raised are valid on the pics above!
I only do electronics on £100k cars usually so we don't see much mil spec :)

Puggie has raised another valid point actually with regards to "mil spec". It's a term that gets banded round so much especially in the states, that tbh I'm not sure most layman would actually know the connotations.
So my standard "mil spec" harness will consist of
"Mil spec" thin wall cable which is silver tinned (so it can't rust) and heat rejection/maximum heat range of 200c. Extremely good cable is up to 150c and standard automotive (OEM) is 85c
Braided sheath, self extinguishing and with a maximum temp of 150c

Heat shrink, again with a maximum temp of 150c

The connectors and pins are OEM spec.

From there if you wanted I can add Nomex braiding raychem dr25 and other products with further heat rejection should you feel necessary.

All engine harnesses will have cable with a conductor diameter that either matches or exceeds OEM specification where I feel necessary. Factory looms have been broken down into their component parts and every cable split to measure both strand count and strand diameter to ensure that the correct or better sizing is used.
Where frailties in the OEM loom have been noticed these have been remedied, namely with significantly better earthing.

All looms will come with braided sheathing, heatshrunk ends and OEM spec brand new connectors as a minimum.

Hey Paul I'd take a interior loom with fuse box when your ready:)
More than 50k quality please

Cheers matey :)

The loom connectors for that are on their way, as soon as I've got a date for them landing I'll drop you a line with a few options

I will also take one of them, my car should be the same needs at @ted777, basic race interior loom to run the bare minimum that we need in our cars with the necessary relays and fuse board with flying wires

I would also be interested in a new engine loom possibly later in 2017 when funds allow

That's great cheers Stephen. As above when the connectors land I'll drop you a line for options.

Thank you both I really appreciate it :)
