Matt's 512bhp EK9 project

So it was gonna be a few weeks before my car could go in for the final touches and mapping so I cracked on with a few other jobs.

First job was to install the oil temp, oil pressure and coolant temp gauges, along with the new dash surround to accommodate them.

This is a sick photo! Some serious smoke.

Then a rather random purchase of a genuine seeker V2 wing. Now I've wanted one of these for years but genuine ones rarely come up for sale and if they do are a fortune. This one was bought by a member on here from the original group buy, was a decent price and immaculate. So it was an early start one Saturday morning and off to Suffolk I went with one of the mates in tow just for the ride lol.

Once back home I fitted the wing immediately!

Well there's a story behind it, my mates were in the stands and asked me to do a 'crowd pleaser'.....so naturally I obliged lol!

It's really impressive. Was this while you were still n/a?

I've been dying to do a burnout in my civic (or really hard launches), I'm really scared about breaking things though, unfortunately I also rely on it to get to work/daily duties so I'm a bit conservative and careful with it (with the exception of when I get to go to the track).

Next up was a purchase of some wheels, now I've run the standard wheels on the 9 for around 10 years at this point and never thought I'd swap them out as I love them. But with the thought of a bigger brake purchase on the cards I knew the 15's wouldn't cut it. I ended up buying some cheap and cheerful 16" Rota circuit 10's as I love the mugen MF10 rim.....but these were super cheap, brand new too! Tyre wise I bought two yokohama 225/45/16 to see what fitment was like front and back, fronts fitted fine, rears did not so 205/45/16 went on the rear.

Yes this was when it was NA, I used to launch it really hard on semi slicks! I did damage a shaft when I was learning to launch but that's because I wasn't loading the transmission up and just side stepping the clutch lol! Luckily this hasn't been my daily since the year I bought it, think it would be a different story if it was lol!

Yeah makes sense, I was taught by a friend to just side step the clutch at high revs and the burnout would be really easy. I would only attempt it in the rain though just to help the tyres lose traction and not fry the drivetrain by gripping up.

When I get my new clutch I might give it a go, just to make sure I have a replacement if my current one decides to **** itself trying to launch at 5K+ rpms. Trying to save for a house at the moment (in between saving pennis for my car) and if I could keep things from breaking that'd be really great hahaha :x:

Side stepping the clutch is fine if you don't have lots of traction as it just spins up with hardly any strain on the drivetrain, if you have plenty of traction it's a sure way to atomise something:nerv:!

Try to keep your car whilst buying a house, that eats money faster than a car lol!

So the day came for my car to go off to race-tech, one of my mates offers a transportation service so I snapped him up as I know he takes care of the car and she is my pride and joy.

So the car was in at race-tech for around a week with regular updates and pictures and then on the Friday it was mapping day after the engine had been run in on the dyno for around 200 miles on mineral oil. The car made 446bhp/309lbft @ 1.5bar!

That dyno vid, damn. Exhaust note is amazing.

Dat launch control on the dyno hahaha angry little 1.8

The car was mapped in November 2015 so from then on the car only came out on nice days, no rain/salt down etc.

Over the winter a few jobs were done, the old Tein coilovers had been on the car since I owned it (which was 9 years at this point), and no idea how long before that in Japan! They had become a bit noisy and one was weeping, so I had to decide whether to rebuild them or just buy new. I took the decision to buy new and went for BC racing units with 12kg F 8kg R. This was helped by the fact a guy I ride my enduro bike with actually owns Apex Performance, who are the sole importer of BC racing suspension, so a deal was struck and these ended up on the car.

Next up was the brake upgrade, now after talking to freakyparts about some wilwood units I had templates emailed over and offered them up to my wheels, they were damn close and looked like a spacer would have to be used. The problem with this was my tyres were already catching the inner arch liner so I would have to modify the front wings.

In the end I went for an easier (and cheaper) big brake upgrade of ATR calipers and discs, these offered a twin pot design and 300mm x 28mm disc, so plenty of disc to dissipate heat, downside is they are heavy. These were coupled with Dixcel type Z pads and Dixcel 328 fluid.

At the same time upgraded 500hp insane shafts were installed. These don't look much different to my stock ones other than they're new lol, see how they cope!

Awesome job on the car over the last load of years!

It has turned into a bit of a beast now :naughty: would surprise a few serious cars!
