I know there is a LOT of info on the internet obviously but also there is a lot of **** on the internet too lol. Just a quick look on egay etc and these engine's are going for less than £1500, that's less or the same as a B18C, why would anyone bother upgrading to a B18C now? There also seems to be a lot of talk about bhp figures, are the standard engine's really that restrictive? Seems Honda could have released a car with 230bhp quite easily unless I'm missing something? What sort of power do these engines make with subtle mods?

People still upgrade to B18C as its alot less hassle! K-Swap, mounts, manifolds, driveshafts and alot more are expensive. A Kswap would cost a few thousand more than a simple B-series swap.

Thanks, I think they are becoming a bit of a bargain now though, old posts have mentioned £3-4k for an engine!

Yeah engines arent that expensive, gearboxs can cost a bit also. Its more the stuff to actually put the engine in the car that is expensive

although a k series is nearly the same price as a b series now, alot of people would still rather the b series engines over the k.. k series does cost quite alot to do a conversion as well.

My mates ep3 with, mani exhaust, decat and aem intake - mapped on K-Pro is putting out 248bhp - (cant mind the torque figure but think it was about 170-180 ft/lb)

Bloody hell that's good figures. Are the engine's much the same or are there gems to look out for? Are the DC5 cams the lairiest OEM cam?

a friend of mine has a ep3 with an induction kit and a re-map and it made 236bhp and i think 160 ft/Ibs. so with a few bolt on mods you would see an easy 250hp

Just the usual things to look out for, make sure gearbox is ok smooth and no crunches or noises. Ep3 are alot easier to drive with the low down torque, still love my wee b serier tho :p

Need to remember that with the k20 engine and ep3 box your not getting an lsd either. So extra costs in buying one of those to factor in, obviously all the mounts, shafts, shifter, exhaust needs to be modified etc thats been mentioned all bump the price up.
Against just picking up a b18 and putting it in.

As said,
It's not sourcing the engine and box that's difficult
You can get a complete running ep3 for under £2k.
It's all the swap parts you need.

Where as a £1400 b18c drops straight in and just swap ecu over. :)

The k swap is a big job. The costs are coming down as there are more second hand parts coming up for sale but its still going to be 3k+ and it takes a while to do if you haven't done it before

I agree. Costs are indeed coming down, but it will be a while before more parts are in circulation around the forums etc..

I have a K20a2 engine and DC5 shifter box setup for sale too if anyone's interested ;)

Most cost is similar but what adds up for the k swap are things like mounts conversion harness Kpro ecu axles and a bunch of other random stuff needed
