K20 costing and requirements

I have found they tend to be double the price of the uk equivalent.

Great simple review there Steven. Can't wait to get mine running.

Ouch, that's a lot to pay for a few extra horses and a basic LSD, surely the UK engines are the ones to go for then? Change left over for a decent diff and some bolt ons?

That sounds about right Chris, the UK ones are going for around 1500 from what I've seen. Are you going to be running yours with the DC5 ECU or upgrading to a Hondata.

It is a lot extra to pay for, However with the JDM ecu you are getting a fully de-immobilised ecu so you can run your car using it instead of the Kpro. It depends what sort of budget your on and whether you mind putting UK spec parts on your car or going the extra mile to keep it JDM yo'..

Surely it's not that hard to circumvent the immobiliser? Yea you'll need a Kpro but most people will be wanting a remap anyway, so no biggie about not being able to use the stock ECU.

No idea what the K20 LSDs are like, but if the one in the ATR and DC2 are anything to go by, then they aren't much cop. I would be saving myself a grand, getting a UK powertrain and using the change towards a Quaife/Kpro. Or maybe even put it towards an OS Giken...

If you're budgeting £6k, and the powertrain can be sorted for £1500, where does the remaining £4.5k go? Do all the custom bits really add up to that much?!

it's not cheap kozy

engine
box
diff and final drive possibly
lighter flywheel
new clutch
swap shafts
new clutch line
shifter cables
shifter
shifter mounting kit
intake manifold
intake
exhaust manifold
b-pipe shortened on old exhaust or a new custom system
radiator
radiator hoses
slim fan and mounting kit
throttle body adapter
possibly a larger throttle body
ECU
possibly k100/kpro and tuning
wiring harness adapter
fuel rail
fuel lines
FPR
engine mounts
subframe / rack / arb / lower arms / all the bolts for this
new balljoints / drop links / bushes for the above
o2 sensor (wideband if you are running JDM ecu and loom)
hoses and bolts
labour (unless doing yourself)
oils and filters

it all fairly adds up!

can get immobiliser delete kits which don't cost alot, not required with kpro though

:wow:

Not worth the extra for a jdm engine, as for the box depends on what you want gearing wise, you could sell the diff.

It really is quite a horrendous list.

For all that to still be worth doing over a sleeved 2 litre B series, it must be something quite special!

I'll put a full cost list up later if you like to get an idea? I bought a standard box and an mfactory lsd and got a friend to fit it for a bottle of jack daniels :D

Standard reliability of the k20 and with the closed loop function of the kpro can get amazing mpg when the engine is not under much load!

Will fire up a video of mine once it's tuned so you can make out for yourself if it's worth it

Mine is a uk k20a2 with a uk gearbox rebuilt with 5.1FD

Your friend does Kswaps for a bottle of JD? Or fitted the diff?

Im goin to upgrade it to a k pro need to get the most out of the engine lol

K20's are pretty epic, the power even though it maybe lower than some other different engines and cars out tthere, the ep3 sometimes is quicker, adn deffinately alot of fun.

I have an ep3 CTR now on 96k, still drives like a beauty. Wouldnt mind using it as a donor for a kswap.

I'll get some go pro footage of mine ad some point

As Steven said
250 with stock engine and bolt ons

the list seems endless alright, im already about a grand over original budget lol it does all add up even the small things like FPR etc

We did a conversion back in te day in a ek4 with a k20a swap. We fabricate most of the parts so ended up costing the customer around £1000 plus engine. Still runs fine today as far as I know.
Good luck.
