Jimmys Ek9 - b20 to k20 s/c build

Great build. Really like the b series you had in it. Shame if you have to break it tho after all the work gone into it

Getting on the housing market end of the year, so I'm saving like a lunatic at the minute and hoping i wont have to sell. Just not feeling the love for motorsport up here at Lossiemouth, my nearest track is knockhill which is over 3h 30mins away - and I'd probably get banned driving the A9 Aviemore road in my civic

Needs must I suppose, hopefully you can keep it.

They used to hold sprints up in Lossiemouth. Also you have Boyndie sprint along the road from you (35 miles) and Golspie sprint further north. 92 miles.

I've been silent for a long time after selling mine I've tried to stay off here to avoid re-catching the bug that I can't afford with a mortgage to pay!

But please don't sell this! I've done nothing but regret selling mine since the second it left my ownership 3 years ago. I still cry myself to sleep at night! Yours was always a big inspiration and I'm sure it still is to many!

Just keep her tucked away if you can't afford to run it. I wish I had done that with mine, then at least when I was more financially comfortable I could get it out again!

also, you could always move nearer to a track ;)

:D

Thank you very much for your kind words mate! If I'm ever down south, I will be going out my way to buy you a pint... or 2.

I've still very much been humming and arring about this for the past year, but when I think now.. the last financial I've been away 9 and a half months of it! In the coming month I will be finally coming home, with a much clearer head.

My thoughts on this are positive (well, they always have been) as it's an absolute thrill to drive on track, despite the offsets. I think I will be renewing this project, starting from the ground up, getting it acid dipped to future proof the shell before heading down the supercharge route.

Glad to hear that you will be getting back on this! Looking forward to seeing what you do.

Always nice when an old school member comes back to the forum.

Have you been anywhere interesting?

Oh yeah buddy!!
Old school/back in the day build coming back! It's all about that.

Thanks Jesse, she's still going strong - although Lossiemouth weather/air has taken its toll on it. Acid dip is just to keep any future rust at bay, few blemishes starting to come through as it popped a fuel line couple months back. :-(

Haha you could say interesting, yes. Well I've done some miles mate, that's for sure! 4 months down Falklands - March last year, Spain for just over 4 weeks, then Malta for 2 weeks. Spent about 1.5 months in UK then went to Cyprus for 4 and a half (where I'm stuck still).

Will be aiming for a 6-10 month build depending on how much I'm away, there isn't much in the car so stripping/prepping car for the acid dip should take 2 to 3 days or so. Then looking over the condition of old parts, giving them a clean and lube etc.

I'm sort of leaning towards time attack and going crazy on it, getting weight down with grinder, making a new interior and lights loom as I'm already running the digital display with its own data bus/sensors.

Need to reroute fuel lines as it doesn't like it's current layout/weather as they keep leaking after a couple of months. Aeroquip push lock fittings with an in-line fuel filter to be run through the interior to a 25l fuel cell (with collector) in the back, or in place of oem fuel tank - depending on the current weight distribution. Should be a remedy to fuel surges when low fuel + cornering aswell.

Will upload a picture when Internet sorts it's life out

Wow you have covered a few miles! I know it's not exactly a holiday or a jolly up it must still be incredible to see all the different places you do,

My girlfriend was born on one of the cyprus bases and lived there for a while, and her dad is just finishing up his final visit to the Falklands, so I often hear stories about these places.

I think its likely that you will be the first person in the uk to of acid dipped a ek9, its a good idea and probably a better solution than blasting providing the acid is nuturalised and and treated well inside cavities I guess,
should keep it good for many years to come!

It's something I would of liked to of done but just ended up doing it the hard/cheap way

Some places are, others not so much! Haha. Its a brilliant experience seeing different countries with work, regardless. Akrotiri is great though weather wise! Beats a Lossiemouth winter hands down lol!

Perhaps Episkopi? This place is growing on me, even mid winter is was in the mid teens! The locals are nice, relaxed, laid back - quite enjoy the lifestyle they have. Always seeing eks, dc1/2s out here too! This place has probably got me back on track.

I thought about blasting it, but you can't get into all the nooks and crannies and theres no guarantee you've rid of all the oxidation once you've done it. Unless you have a remote viewing aid.

Most places I've looked at do a 2 stage dip to ensure all impurities are gone, then follow that up using 3 different neutralising baths. Also should loose some weight from old underseal haha. I'll get to see if the chassis is actually seam welded from factory also.
