Just been ringing the phone bill up today getting quotes before I get an EK9 imported and I've read about the sad story in the for sale section and didn't want to be in a similiar position.

So anyway, almost every company quoted me around the £5k mark, some even more. However, I was told by one (Adrian Flux), if I were to drive a car for a year, get a single NCB, that would instantly drop to £1800 which I wouldn't mind paying seen as though I've just passed recently and it will be my first car. (21/m/student)

Is it me or is that really uncanny? 1 year driving, and a huge drop in premium.

I feel very frustrated and annyed now as I really wanted to build a car right away. I think the savings will need to be put back in the piggy bank again.

LOL they think people have machines that "cut" money......Keep your money mate, I wouldn't give them such a paycheck for such a car just because they like to rip off....

get a small lower power car first, learn how to drive that them move onto teh EK9,,

I think it is quite justified myself.

I mean come on...you have absolutely no driving experience and expect to get cheap quotes on one of the highest insurance quoted hatchbacks there is?!!!!

You are a liability in there eyes.

Most 1st year drivers have at least 1 knock ad it's not worth stacking a 9 in the 1st year of driving.

And if your an avid fan of the EK9, then another years wait will only make it better when you do get one!

Jesus christ, 5k and you are 21? alright its your first year but your area must have a high crime rate or they seen you coming!
Ive been driving 4 years with no NCB (Write off being a claim) And i got quoted £1550 with a £250 excess, Insurance is officaly a bitch!

hmm, im 19, 1 ncb and i have been quoted 1800, still high, but not compared to what some are paying, i think its mainly down to where i live that i have it "cheap" and the fact its in a garage, and as soon as i have my ek9, i will be putting the best alarm i can afford in it (around £500-£600), as i know ek9s are easy to steal pre 98 or 99, cant remember.

and by the time i get my ek9 it should be cheaper too. hopefully.

i was going to suggets the same the price are so hight because ur trying to insure a group 20 car as ur 1st car

Adrian Flux will not insure anyone without at least a years NCB i tried to get insured with them last year on my corsa and they wouldnt touch me without it so i ended up with elephant

best thing u can do is get a cheap small engined car for ur 1st year then insure the ek

ye as a first car i think they are bang on to up the price to that much. your a severe liability and the cars seen as something very high risk. i knew people when i was a student and the fact that they were a student up'd some claims

buy something cheap to run around for a year or two and then go for the 9 i would say. 1 you will save a fortune all round. and 2 it makes you apreciate things more. and to be honest stacking a 9 due to a silly learning (cause the learning starts once you pass!! ) would be a shame...and im sure we all made mistakes when we first passed :D

So i think the answer to your question is there is no hope for you to insure it cheaply but then again everyones financial status is different so if you wanna pay 5k for insurance then at your pearl, although i dont think you will appreciate it as much as if you had already driven a few other cars.

For me i went from a Clio 75bhp, C2 GT 110bhp,Civic Sport 120bhp and for the time being my Saxo VTS which is the quickest of the lot so far, so until such time as i can save money for the 9 ill be able to appreciate it more as ive driven a few cars already, alright there not Supercars but ive had my experience's of FWD cars over 100bhp!

Although at the same time we can all only advise against our own experiences, but the choice is urs matey! Good luck!

Thanks guys.

I've got myself a 1.0L Micra lined up which is looking to be sweet on insurance from the quotes I've been getting. Hopefully come 2009, things will be better with getting the EK9 on the drive.

you'll def apreciate it mate ;)

id often love to have the cheap insurance and cheap petrol etc.lol.but i couldnt live without her now :D
