Recently removed the back seats etc from my ek9 and to be honest it doesn't look it's best so was wanting to pain it. Thinking about doing it myself with just rattle spray cans of paint.

What I'm kinda looking for is a bit of a step by step guide on what to do and what sort of grit paper to use to get the best finish possible. Won't be in a rush to get it back on the road as I've got a couple of weeks off work to do it. All help appreciated folks! :)

I'm interested in this myself, hopefully someone has some experience in this. :) :nice:

Start by cleaning the areas to be painted, use a pre paint solvent de greaser on a rag or use brake cleaner if you can't get panel wipe/degreaser,

If you simply want to freshen it up then use a scotch brite pad or p500 to key it up, then mask it up and paint.

Cheers mate. Yeah basicly just wanting to spray from where the rear seat carpet finishes through to the back end of the car in black, the same colour as my 9. Can you get away with just using scotchbrite on the surface to create a key or do you need to use a primer aswell? And do you need to use a lacquer as a sealant to preserve the condition or is the primer just for adding a gloss shine?

I wouldn't bother clear-coating it as the inside won't see anywhere near the same level or dirt as the outside and it won't have much in the way of UV damage and it'll make life a lot easier. Black is the worst colour to paint as it shows everything in the finish. Primer will only be needed to fill in any minor marks which paint will not fill.

Ok cool thanks! Yeah black is going to be a nightmare I can imagine. Only other colour I cant think of is possibly white but thing stopping me is A) my mate's ek9 track car is black then white inside and B) I'm planning a red cage in the future and don't want too many colours on the go. Hmmm, decisions!
