Hey, i am on a motor traders policy but would rather insure it myself if i can cheap enough... okay but the problem is when i go to bell.co.uk for insurance i cannot see the car in the list.. the only car which is close.. is HONDA... CIVIC.. VTEC R (IMPORT) 1600CC... i mean thats surely it isnt it? Import R 1.6 VTEC? they do have type R (IMPORT), but if i select that its not the old one.. its the 2.0 one? is this the right one?? this question might only apply to ppl in the UK as it might be different elsewhere.. Thanks:thanks:

That is the problem, it is not a widely insured car with most of the known insurers as its import only and under the previous insurance groupings, was an automatic group 20 car. I'd say think clearly before you buy, especially since you are only 18, which more than likely isn't going to be favourable with them.

yer i dont mind on if they will insure me or not i asked what car to select if its 3k i will go on the Motor traders policy if i can get it down to 2k ill insure it myself.. im not to worried about the whole how much it will cost tbh..

Find one that will insure it properly  Insure it as soemthing other than what it is, and you probably won't get paid out and sounds as if Bell STILL haven't changed from the last time I asked

i was thinking that.. i mean i can insure the one on bell.. which is "Honda Civic VTEC R (IMPORT)" But if its not the right one they might tell me where to go if i do claim... hopefull i dont.. another website did have the Type R 1997-2000 it was about 4k fully comp and 2.5 TPFT lol so i guess i will try the VTEC R (IMPORT)..

Go with Bell, its up to you but you will be more or less driving around with no insurance since your car is not a "Honda Civic VTEC R (IMPORT). If you really want one so bad, do it the proper way..and insure it properly.

what the hell is a Honda Civic VTEC R Import than? i thought that was it? it doesnt have EK9 on the list.. and i mean this was the closest i can see "R" and "Import", so i figured...?

the "vtec R import" is the correct one for the ek9, my friend contacted his insurance company and they told him that was the right one. he had his ek9 insured with them for a couple of years with no problems

HI Jamie,

Im 21 mate with 1 yr ncb and im going with bell when i get my EK9 and i phoned them to check the VTEC R Import was the ek9 and they told me it was 100% correct. Get them to add a covering paragraph in the letter they will send you just to cover your own ass.

Mate don’t risk it, the VTI-R Import and the VTEC -R Import are both incorrect. with elephant and bell. i researched it as i wanted to be correct. if you insure then under that description it is false and you are uninsured, little bumps they pay out on but if you were to kill someone or seriously injured them you are in real trouble trust me, i was searching for ages elephant and bell was coming back with prices like £1400 and £1500 and Adrian flux was saying min £2500 along with others and they had it down as an EK9 not a VTI R or VTEC r import that rings bells with me, up to you to risk it but i had to bite the bullet and have a UKDM integra for the time being as the insurance was way to high,

i couldn’t risk not being insured on a 9.

if you do be careful.

Search the forum, it has been discussed before that is how i was warned

don’t mean to sound like i am dictating but dont want you to get in to trouble,

the insurance factory was really good 08707778181 got a quote £1500 TPFT but cant risk TPFT

JDMCTR you are correct mate, i have researched it alot, think you advised me before. i have defected to am itr but once the NCB is up EK9 9 9 9 9 9 all the way

This is seriously confusing, as I see the both sides of the debate.
I know a dude whos insured his 9 with Bell, like others as a vti R, with no probs atall, and says its 100% legit. But others have told me that a vti R is not an ek9. So what is a vti R if it is not an ek9 then?

dunno what vti-r is, but if the insurance company knew the car, they should also know the name

I'm going through the same problem myself at the moment. I have phoned loads of companies that don't have anything relating to an EK9 in the list of cars they can insure.

I too thought the 1.6 Vtec R was the EK9 from a couple of insurance companies but they weren't able to verify this.

What was even more frustrating was that these companies didnt seem to have anybody technical enough to find out if it was the same car so I just couldn't take the risk.

Best quotes I've had so far have been from A-Plan and Adrian Flux.

Hopefully I pick up my car on thursday and will have it all sorted by then.:)

i totally understand what you are saying but it is up to you to take the risk

this is all i could find on google for VTI-R and as you can see it s not the EK9

stop wasting your time people and get in touchj with A-Plan insurance ;)
they specialise in imported vehicles and have saved me and a few mates hundreds!

my old 94 civic SIR cost me 650, but the closest other company out of about 10 was 1300. they have quoted me 700 on my ek9. again the closest other quote was around 1400.
everytime i have phoned they have had or found every car on their list in no time and they have always been by far the most friendly to deal with.

Can i suggest somthing? Get a picture of the EK9 and email it to the insurance company, i done this to check for a quote with elephant and they came up with a Honda Civic Type R EK9, the picture was of a 2000RX model by the way!

personally in my eyes if they cant find it without that sort of help id leave it and go with a specialist who knows what they are on about.just my view
