X2. Can you not just remove the vacuum, pipes and fan, and that's job done?

Looking to do this over the weekend as the belt is already cut.

I'm still unsure weather or not im going to do this or not I dont use the A/C when its hot as thats why we have windows plus you can hear the car more that way too :)

My real concern is demisting the windows during cold damp weather do people find it a pain as it was really rubbish in my old car without a/c and slapping the A/C for a few seconds in my EK9 is brilliant.

I will investigate this over the weekend... Hopefully all runs smoothly :D Will post my progress :D

*remove the metal bar that runs from left to right. This is retained by 6mm or 8mm bolts. Remember where they go!
Then slot it down and place onto your carpet

*disconnect the AC thermostat and unclip the wires form the 3x plastic 'clips' that the wires hooked around

*undo the 6x 10mm head bolts/NUTS that retain the black section of the air box. Note the two brass coated ones go into the firewall.

*gip and pull the drain towards the firewall to remove it from the box.

*then making sure you don’t catch any cables slide the box out towards the passenger seat with a little persuasion.

*take the box out of the car being careful to keep the firewall side high/level is the ac evaporator/heat exchanger will have a little oil in it still.
you don’t want to make a mark on your carpet of worse your recaros
I'm having a bit of trouble removing this plastic casing. I removed all nuts, bolts and screws but it still won't come off!

Is it as simple of just pulling it out because I think I'm gona break the thing!

Cheers lads

If you have standard engine mounts you need it to stop wheel hop , if you have stiffer mounts you can usually bin the 2 torque control mounts without any side affects :)

i dont mind wheel hop at the moment im just asking is it ok to run as a daily without it ? thanks for the reply btw

Great post

Like a few on here I ditched everything else bit still have the evaporator. I always been on the look out for a duct off a non-A/C car as it never crossed my mind that you can just take the parts out of what's already there.

Will give it a go soon :thanks:

cool thanks i was worried there for a sec ! and btw i feel the throttle response improved with just the stuff in the engine bay gone it weighed at 15.5 kg. I still have to take out the box from the inside.

Just took the evaporator out of mine (bit behind the glovebox). 2Kg saving :)) so worth doing for 30min and the cost of something to blank the holes off with - which could technically be nothing if you just have some silicon sealant or similar lying about in the shed. :woot:

this is tempting, took my pass seat out of my clio 172 for trackdays and felt the difference, 26kg.

revival!!!! This is great help! been saved in my favourites for a later date ;)

Good thread, might come in handy when i pickup my race base ek9 as it has ac fitted
