Hi all.
I thought I would share my story and hope this can help others.
I got a private parking ticket for £100 :angry2:
Thinking I just had to bite the bullet and pay it I found a article from Jeremy Clarkson in the sun Topgear motor section about paying a company £16 to appeal your ticket and if they don't win they pay it. They also have a 99% success rate.
So I paid the £16 and three months later we won the appeal and the ticket was canceled.
The appeals website that I used has since said they are not taking on any new customers but there are other sites on google that have this service and i have found out it is easy to appeal with the POPLA yourself. You can even type in on google asking for "parking appeal templates" so you can pretty much copy and paste the letter to the POPLA. Most of them basically say the companies can not justify the amount charged.
Most the time you are likely to win.
This doesn't work for council parking tickets, ONLY PRIVATE COMPANIES IN THE UK.
Hope this is okay to post on the forum.

I always thought that by Law you didn't need to pay for private tickets? Only the council and police can enforce a fine? Any private tickets i get just go straight in the bin.

I think they can try and enforce them but it's not worth their time.

I just try and appeal all my tickets, council have been fairly lenient in the past, but I normally pay the private ones if i dont win too for lack of possible hassle lol

Ive always thought that if they are private then they can just get filed in the bin?

Don't know if that's a different law in Scotland however.

No that's not true. If Private parking tickets are ignored it can effect stuff like you credit rating. I read up a lady who didn't pay hers effected her credit rating and they were saying she couldn't apply for a mortgage for the next 6years unless she paid the increased parking fine and the courts £150. They are harsh, scamming ****

Well that's me screwed. lol, hopefully going to apply for a mortgage this year.

What a **** way for a company to make business.

Only if they take you to court and they win it can effect your rating.
But you should appeal it with POPLA. You have nothing to loose.
If they aren't with the POPLA then they can't access your address and they can't do anything those ones you can literally chuck in the bin.

Nice, will look into it. Thanks!

Also Neil if you applying for a mortgage I would check you credit rating before hand. It will tell you if there is anything on their bad and can stop you from being rejected. Sometimes they can blacklist you by mistake they did that to my mum because she had the same name as someone else.

Yeah we should of bought a house but now we have like 10cars and live in a caravan.:confused:

If they take you to court they win...but the money is less than their costs.
First time i got ome i didnt pay and after months it was dropped.
2nd time I paid...the stress wasnt worth 60quid to me.

Ive got done twice in private car parks. I deliberately didnt buy a ticket and got caught. I threw them in the bin and never heard anything. Id never pay them or buy a ticket. Council car parks are another story.

same story with me mate. My dad has had a couple, Just ignored them. They even try and threaten you with a solicitors letter. Load of waffle. Just another money making scheme that some unfortunately fall for. Research always pays off in these matters.

It isn't worth there hassle to take you to court. It costs them more to do that than what the fine is worth.
My last ticket I got I just ignored.

Also worth noting, everytime you get a credit check, it puts your rating down slightly. So only check it when absolutely needed.

Have any of you lot ever tried... Paying for parking in the first place ;)
Good info though. I have never had a ticket, but it's always good for future reference.

I wouldn't even know how to pay a parking ticket. I would probably just leave the cash in the parking space as I left :run:

Yh true but sometimes you don't always realise.
I'd personally rather pay £16 or spend the time appealing it than have court letters and the hassle of being chased for money. I'm happy I paid £16 and they have left me alone.
