Got a quick release boss kit and a omp steering wheel both with black and red wires, need to connect it to the horn, can anyone help?

im about to sort out my horn, but this is on the ek, unsure if its the same!

there is a 3 pin grey connector that has been disconnected when removing the original, you need to insert some automotive cable in the middle connector (+ve to horn) then connect it to your boss.

NOW, if like me, the boss doesnt have a connector of some sort, you will see the back of it has a metal plate (guessing its copper) you will have to get something to make contact with this plate from the cable!

When removing mine i noticed there was a piece of metal that was a right angle with 2 spade connectors on it that was used before, i have reused that and connecting the cable above to it using a crimp and then putting a bare crimp on the other end to extend the connection point to meet the cooper and bend it towards the plate so its constantly making a connection.

That should be your positive sorted, now the -ve, i couldnt see any connectors on mine (D1 spec) but it did come with 2no washers that had tabs going in the middle where the wires/horn is located which is the right size for a crimp to connect to. In theory with it all being metal this would be earthed to the car! So that would be the -ve!

Hope that sounds right and easy to understand! When i get round to doing mine i will take some pics! And for the SRS light, 2.2 ohm resistor in the yellow connector and a reset sorts it :win: If you need more info let me know :secret:

Thanks for the feedback budd, but I dont have to Much knowledge with this crap, it's been a bit of a nightmare trying to get it through the mot, photos could help though.

yeah but not doing it until closer to xmas as im mega busy! there is a few topics out there that helps if you google it, if i find any i will link you!

i need this done on my omp also picture would help me alot i did not understand a word of that...you dont realise how much you miss your horn till you cant use it..lol

I have got used to no horn as has been about 7 months without one, but need it working for mot, think it may be Easyier to just buy a standard wheel with horn for mot?

You can wire it pretty easy as the horn only uses a single wire, you do need to make up some sort of connector that will be touching the steering wheel boss at the back tho. Also, you will have to de-connect it every time you take your wheel off... I just cut the OEM connector, took a length of wire, soldered it to a small piece of thin copper sheet which I then attached behind the steering wheel and bent it so that it touches the boss at the back. Then I connected this to the original horn wiring and voila! It makes a bit of a noise when you turn the wheel now as the metal plate is rubbing against the boss but I got used to it rather quickly.

Here's a how to I made on another forum

Well obviously you will need a snap off boss (D1 spec etc) and a boss on first ?(momo, nardi etc)

You gotta make sure the boss is all lined up in the correct way so make a wee pen mark or something so you can put it back together at the right angle

Take the positive wire that comes through your Momo boss and plug it onto the + plug on the Snap off boss as shown below

Also you will notice the negative wire has the plug connecting it to the earthing ring (you may have to bend the earthing ring tab a bit to get the cable plugged onto it)

Then after that's wired and bolted on, you'll have the face of the snap off boss to do, which is simple to do you snap it back onto the back of the snap off boss so it's in one piece and take one of the wires that comes from the boss, connect it to the positive side of the snap off boss front and plus the other end into your horn button, now test it out

If it doesn't work then you gotta make sure there are no loose connections and that your shoe horn is connecting the back of the momo boss correctly :geek:

for those with horn buttons that have 2 plugs on them, simple case of elimination, connect a plug to both the positive and negative plugs on the snap off boss front, if it doesn't work then switch the + and - around

Jobs a good un

Hopefully this helps some folk out, any questions you're welcome to PM me

Thankyou for the help guys but I dislike doing any off this stuff as its never easy and allways stresses me out, so best bet is to buy a standard wheel with the horn, Easyier

Does anyone know why my horn is staying on when ever the tab touches the back of the boss?
