UPDATE:
So finished the NS wing, had a few little dings on the top of the wing so slapped some filler on and got them out, stone chipped and undersealed the inside of the wing for protection / also got the OS front wing welded up and in filler
image.jpeg

Got somewhere near with the NS rear arch and got close to finishing it needs a tight skim then ready for undersealing and primer.
image.jpeg

Also made a start on the front of the bay welding and filling all the little holes to get a cleaner look SO MANY
:(

Looking good. Funny thing is I'm doing the bad boy bonnet thing too. If done with the right mods it doesn't look out of place. I've also given spare wings to a mate like yours. Such a coincidence lol

Haha no way!! I'll have to have a look at it! Yeahhh at first it looked stupid but had to trim to match the bumper and it suits it well

UPDATE : Not really much to show this time but the boot is ready for primer, the OS front wing is due its final skim and I finished the rear arch ready for the underseal and wax oyl to go on,
image.jpeg

I fancied doing something different from sanding so drained all the fluids out of the engine, gearbox and radiator.
Started to take everything off to remove the engine and gearbox.
Got everything off and the drive shafts out, just the mounts to do next .
So once it's out I can give it full clean, respray, service, new clutch and new cambelt, Whilst it is out i will be getting to work on smoothing bits of the bay and repainting it.

UPDATE :
Just engine stuff tonight,
Stripped the gear box off, all the mounts, took all the intake off and removed everything.
lifted the engine out with some rope and a scaffold bar.
Suprised how easy this was to do! Can now see what I'm doing and get to work on the rust in the bay and smooth some holes.
also see what I can hide away and relocate.

UPDATE:
Had a look around the bay and the firewall seems pretty tricky as for painting it, I'm not going to much lengths on the bay so the brake lines will be staying etc, just trying to find out a way to move them temporarily,

Stripped all the NS off and started to clean it up, grind the holes for welding and remove the horrible seam sealer!
Ready for welding and patching

UPDATE:
So started on welding up the engine bay, takes so long to fill all the little holes as there's no way to patch them, got all of one side welded so will grind that down then start welding the firewall, only 4 or 5 holes and may be able to patch them should be okay.
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

Got the arch ticked off, will primer and underseal when that gets here, also got the boot ticked off and the plate recess smoothed and ready

Made a start on the engine today aswell. Main goal with the engine/block is to refresh it all up and give it abit of life, re paint the block, Some performance spark plugs, new HT leads, new cambelt, maybe new clutch and repaint/powder coat a few little things. started with taking the power steering pump off along with the bracket and pully.
Took the horrible grey plastic cover off (gave it a coat of matte black)
And cleaned a lot of the side of the block.

UPDATE:
Attacked the recent welding in the engine bay and got them all down to a nice smooth look ready for filler!
Cut out my battery tie down plate thingy, so it looks cleaner. Cut a patch for it and welded it in.
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

After that I Had a look at my intake manifold. To see what I can do to freshen it up a bit. checked all the seals, O rings and gaskets. All seem to be fine and looking well! Will be replacing the hoses as they look tatty.

image.jpeg

Thought I'd learn how they work and how there built so stripped it all down, sanded and cleaned all the grime off. Gave it a lick of paint and freshened it all up a little bit.
Painted the main intake in a clean silver and all the accessories, throttle body and plugs satin black.
Hand polished the fuel rail aswell.

image.jpeg

Re built it all back up. Greasing all the nuts and bolts and it turned out well in my eyes. Nice and fresh

UPDATE :

Got the rear NS arch all primered and undersealed on the inside. Used hammerite wax oyl, covers good and comes out thick!
image.jpeg

Got the half of the bay and fire wall welded again, put a little skim of fibreglass in some the holes I'd patched up just to fill them a bit and add abit of strength
image.jpeg

Started grinding on the other side of the bay now aswell, removing rust and cleaning the holes!
A lot easier to work on this side
image.jpeg

Got the gear box and power steering pump all cleaned up
Took some bits off and gave it a lick of paint, matching the intake and will match the engine block when that gets painted.
image.jpeg

UPDATE:

Removed the brake booster/servo so I have more room to play on the OS leg of the bay.
Gives me a chance to clean it up aswell (any other boosters fit the EJ that are smaller?)

image.jpeg

Secondly I sanded down the fibreglass on the other side of the bay and put a skim of filler over it all to work with
It's becoming smooth!!

Sanded the front half down and it's starting to take shape!
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

Gave the recently cleaned engine block a coat of heat resistant hammerite! (This stuff is great)
The finish from just a few coats of primer aerosol and aerosol hammerite is shockingly good!

UPDATE:
Primered the smoothed plate recess to see if there was any pinholes
Suprised there wasn't!
(I have another recess so if anyone is interested in a smoothed one I can make another)

image.jpeg

Also gave the NS leg of the bay another skim in the turret and a coat of primer.
Again to see if there's any pinholes. There's only a few so re skimmed the necessary bits
In two minds weather to cap the turret notch
image.jpeg

UPDATE:
Made some progress!
Finally sanded down all of the NS leg of the bay and half the firewall, some really tricky bits started to frustrate me but got there in the end!
Once I got it sanded I masked a few bits up and took to the primer!

Took the crash bar off and Primered all the front end
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

Once that dried I covered and cleaned the smoothed half of the bay, and gave that a thick coat!
Once the primer got laid on I could see it much clearer and I impressed my self!
Very happy with how this side had turned out!

Starting to Look complete

UPDATE:
Made a start on the other side of the bay today! As its the second time doing this I had abit more of a flow to it,
Got all the holes cleaned up, all the seam sealer off and got welding
image.jpeg

Started to move quiet fast as I'm getting better at the welding!
After getting it all patched up I grounded it all down ready for the filler!
Mixed abit of fibreglass and filler up for the lower part of the bay as for some reason there's a step in it,
image.jpeg

as that was drying I went back to my engine, took the casing off to get the to the cambelt as I will be changing this along with the alternator belt, water pump and power steering belt
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

As it was still pretty grimey and mucky I gave it another clean and a flick of matte black stone chip
image.jpeg

, also whilst the pulleys where off they got a coat of silver hammerite to match the others I had painted
image.jpeg

UPDATE:
Been a couple of days since I posted anything but been cracking down on the other side of the bay!
Got it all sanded down and in primer!
Gave it all a thick coat over all and let it dry
image.jpeg

Looking smooth!!!

After the primer had dried for a couple of days I flatted it all down and got the colour on!!
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

I will reveal the colour soon

I've given the bay an added extra touch!
It's mainly for my entertainment and it's also something different

image.jpeg

Yes, my bay glows in the dark!
It takes a while for it to charge and absorb the light but it's so fun!!!

Wow some serious work gone on here. I like the glow in the dark paint, that is different and being different isn't always a bad thing.

UPDATE:
So had a break from the ej9 and had a week away from it, let the engine bay paint set nice and solid before starting to build it back up.

Started on it again today
Firstly the reveal of the colour I wanted a colour would contrast! And stand out when you open the bonnet!
Went for a very light mint green!
The picture (iPhone quality) show it abit greener than it actually is.
image.jpeg

So started to build it back up working from the firewall!
secured all the brake lines back in, and fitted a new high flow fuel filter.

image.jpeg

Cleaning all the pipes as I go, also fitted the freshly painted and colour coded power steering bottle, engine mount and washer bottle, stealthy!

image.jpeg

Also had a quick test fit of an old rota slipstream to give me abit of motivation
image.jpeg

Update:
Currently on hold with the civic as I'm waiting for the last engine part then can continue to build the front back up and fit the engine.

So spent a little time on the s13 in the unit and got the the engine bay smoothed and painted
image.jpeg

It's all about bright colours this year!

Ran the front of the engine bay loom back into the civic whilst tucking it away Alot more then fitted the freshly painted gearbox mount to the car.
image.jpeg

Also had a look at the headlights!
I fancy doing something different than the (joey) mod.
So I split the lenses and painted the frame of the light/holder matte black to tie in with the bottles.
